ISPA added that it is high time that the mobile networks – including Telkom Mobile – recognised that their main business is now being ISPs.

This is both from a legal point of view and in the minds of the millions of South Africans who buy access to the Internet from them.

“This recognition will assist these operators to better understand the Internet Protocol and the role it plays in how consumers get online,” ISPA said.
 
I was confused about his whole statement from the beginning.

Every internet connection has a service provider. What did he actually mean?

Without an ISP in some way shape or form, you have no internet.
 
A relic of the past is having to pay twice for a line and then for an ISP as well. It's the worldwide norm you only deal with an ISP for a single inclusive price. You shouldn't even know who the last mile provider is as networks are the irrelevant part. ISPs provide the data and it's more than just email. If I was a shareholder I'd insist he gets fired.
 
Telkom is at heart a telecoms company or ICT provider. ISP is a subgroup therein - ISP isn't their core business it is their business therein.

Yeah maybe read his quotes again. Wifi doesn't magically provide an internet service.

I already read the article, thanks. Wi-Fi isn't internet, my point is that Telkom is an ISP because they are a telecoms company.

We have so many new 'wireless' connectivity services rolling out. Wi-Fi 6 will be rolled out as a public service, likewise with the new 'G' mobile networks. All which still requires internet accessibility. Just like xDSL (and all other leased line services).
 
Got some inside info from a meeting today at Telkom this whole removal of ADSL has been a stuff up and they gonna probably freeze it for now. It has apparently already removed R3 billion from their books

doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that if you destroy your bread and butter market bad things will happen.

JOHANNESBURG – The final report on malfeasance at the South African Revenue Service (Sars) has hit out at the conduct of consulting firm Bain & Company for enabling its near-collapse.

In a scathing report, Judge Robert Nugent said Bain had let down the people of South Africa. Evidence before the commission told a disturbing story about Bain and the work it did on the ill-fated restructuring of Sars after now-fired Sars commissioner Tom Moyane took over in 2014.

“The commission will decide for itself whether the truth has been told, but the way Bain went about things gives us no confidence that the full truth will indeed be told,” said Nugent."
