Got some inside info from a meeting today at Telkom this whole removal of ADSL has been a stuff up and they gonna probably freeze it for now. It has apparently already removed R3 billion from their books

I was confused about his whole statement from the beginning.

Every internet connection has a service provider. What did he actually mean?

Without an ISP in some way shape or form, you have no internet.

He is about to retrench and shut a BU down...

A relic of the past is having to pay twice for a line and then for an ISP as well. It's the worldwide norm you only deal with an ISP for a single inclusive price. You shouldn't even know who the last mile provider is as networks are the irrelevant part.

That's the thing. The ISP is the FNO and vice versa. The last mile in just a dedicated line to your premises. It can't get congested and there's nobody to blame.

The Internet Service Providers' Association (ISPA) has hit back at Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko’s comments that Internet service providers (ISPs) are a relic of the past.

Responding to questions about Telkom Internet’s all-access subscriber decline, Maseko said its Internet service provider business has become insignificant.
