i have a capped and uncapped accounts from afrihost and am generally happy but the uncapped is becoming very slow lately and want to try some test accounts before i decide to move or not.

I'm def keeping my capped account so looking for uncapped only at this stage, me requirements are quite simple
i used to be able to que a few torrents in the morning before i left for work and on my return they all would be done ready for watching :) that used to be the case but not anymore i'm afraid.

so looking for uncapped for downloading purposes (during the day) i dont mind shaping etc as long as my downloads are done by the time i get home i'm a happy camper

i have a 1mb line and do about average 70gb a month

any isp that can offer me a decent enough account for my requirements ? mind pm'ing a test account ?

price wise +\- R300 and i keep my line with telkom not prepared to move it

R189pm from Webafrica should come to around R350+- after you take your Telkom ADSL line into account.

you are able to download at full speed during the day as long as you don't hit the limit of 14GB within 7 days, if you do you will be throttled down to 50KB/sec +-

Here is a 5GB test account you can signup for: http://www.webafrica.co.za/adsl-trial/

Otherwise you can look at Mweb, but Mweb is much slower during the day but they don't have the throttle limit as far as I know.

thanks for the info nomnom, i just got the openweb trial so will give that a whirl when i'm back home.

What you can do to test is download 3 TV episode torrents that for example came out last week and run them on the account when you are at work, then you can view the speed and time they took to complete on uTorrent.

Then the next day get the exact same 3 torrents and use the Webafrica account and compare the speed/time it took to finish them.

Do both tests at the same time of day.

Just an idea.

Good idea but torrent downloads are affected by more than just line speeds. OP might as well download something else with a similar seed count.

70gig a month is over 2gig a day weekend included! And all that on a 1mbit line. Are you watching tv online or what?

You say that like it's a lot. Running a 1Mbps line at full speed you should be able to do around 9GB a day, so he's using 1/5 of the capacity available to him. I average 3-4GB/day on my 10Mbps line and I stream a lot of video content.

yeah 2gb a day seems about right, dont think thats alot tbh.

did you read this guys thread:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...sidered-Abuse-on-a-1meg-mweb-uncapped-account

must be honest i actually do go over some months when i need to get some extra distros :D but never done anything over 95gb
my highest usage was my first month 95gb lowest was 56gb my average is around 70 which is acceptable usage i would think.

Just asking. I never use more then 5gig a month never mind a day. I am just curious how many hours a day do you spend on the net?

hey its cool, i suppose we all have different usage stats according to what we need on the net.
hardly spend anytime on the net at home, i just queue my downloads in the morning (takes me 5 min) and then watch them when i'm back home, so its basically running the whole day at work and off at night unless i have something else i need.

i canceled my dstv and top tv a while back and NEVER watch sabc so rely on the net to get my shows, i have a drifta for my sports although other than cricket i'm not a huge sports fan. So i guess for someone like me the usage makes sense :D

most people on here are the same i guess, well i actually got the idea to cancel dstv etc from mybb ! once uncapped became affordable there was no need for it (other than sports).

For day time downloading you need Openweb Gold.

Why not just let your downloads go over night though?

All uncapped ISPs only unshape torrents at night. So i'm afraid you really need Gold.

i hate waiting :( i rather stack them up in the morning and watch them the same day :)
i guess i'm just weird that way :D

right now i'm using my capped account to get them same day, the uncapped has been too slow lately, its a pity because this account used to rock before their new shaping policies

Why not set your downloads before you go to bed so when you wake up they done? I'd really recommend that rather. Will come down MUCH faster.

Instead of torrents for your TV Shows, use Sickbeard & sabnzbd, will download all shows from local News Servers, much faster than Torrents.

I work from home which has easily added about 1GB a day to my usage.

But yeah, my usage is mostly made up of video streaming, gaming, occasional torrnet/NZB download.

You need to get out more. Out on the net. There is so much to do and so many things waiting to chow your bandwidth. :)
