yeah Israel f#$ked everything up and then gave it to the Philistines....

reminds me of the ex apartheid govt. if they did things properly 20-30 yrs ago maybe we would be paying less now for dsl :D

What news reports don't tell you are that Hezbollah are killing civilians in Israel but of course frequent yet small attacks don't get reported in the news.

Sunni: Civilians will get killed if your terrorist buddies blend in with the crowd.

On a related note, I found it digusting how one-sided Carte Blanche was last night, only getting the Muslim/Lebanese view of this conflict.

Have to disagree the people they interviewed were Catholic and they never blamed either part for the conflict...

come now Rooney, the reason why the world doesnt show Hezbollah killing is because they arent, if you watch whats going on every time they send a rocket into Israel is only after IDF kills inoccent civilians. whats good for the geese is good for the gander :D ( i think thats how the saying goes)

Yes but they came from Lebanon, talking about the bombs etc, giving an impression that Israel were "bad-boys". How about getting someone from Haifa?

Stole? You really need to look at your history books.

Regardless of your intense anti-Semitic views the state of Israel was irrevocably established out of a 1947 UN GA Resolution. Is that clear enough for you?

Meeting in Lake Success N.Y. November 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly approved the partition plan, with 33 votes in favor, 13 against, 10 abstentions and one absent (see list at end of document).

no doubt it was but under who's authority?
the US and UN ??????

where the Philistines allowed on this vote and the answer is NO.

"After looking at various alternatives, the UN proposed the partitioning of Palestine into two independent States, one Palestinian Arab and the other Jewish, with Jerusalem internationalized. One of the two States envisaged in the partition plan proclaimed its independence as Israel and in the 1948 war expanded to occupy 77 per cent of the territory of Palestine. Israel also occupied the larger part of Jerusalem. Over half the indigenous Palestinian population fled or were expelled. "

you should stop being anti- ismlamic and realise that your boys in Israel were wrong are wrong and by the looks of their attitude will be wrong in decisions they make in future.

Who is being anti-islamic? Being for or against the State of Israel has nothing to do with Islam.

lets tak about the the state of Israel.

"the UN proposed the partitioning of Palestine into two independent States" which means that they took PALESTINE and made into two, they DID NOT take Israel and partition it into two.
so therefore the land was taken away from Palestine.

"proclaimed its independence as Israel and expanded to occupy 77 per cent of the territory of Palestine"

when they did steal the land from Palestine they decided to occupy the 77% of the land.

so please dont talk kuk that Israel was a democratically established state because all they did was steal land from the Palestinians with the help of its allies the us and un.

But thats not for a lack of trying ... the fact that their weaponry is antiquated (WWII design) and their aim is even worse is their problem alone.

Sending 100-150 rockets a day, every day, seems more systematic than retaliatory to me.

On that point they dont 'send' rockets, they intentionally target civilians for the purpose of creating terror. Their ancient weapons have no value in combating a modern mechanised & airborne force like the IDF. On the other hand I dont think the IDF intentionally target civilian to add to some body count scoreboard. To me its seems behind every stike is a genuine military objective, but war is not a precise thing and mistakes are made resulting in collateral damage. This of course is highly compounded by Hezbolla's devious tactics of mixing combatants & civilians ... I mean you dont see the IDF artillery firing from an Israeli town square.

It is my belief that the reason why Israel started this campaign is not about a few kidnapped/killed soldier, that was just the trigger. The real reason was Hezbolla's 6 year of stockpiling of weapons whose only practical purpose is creating civilian terror. If Hezbolla's aims were truely genuine, that is defeating Israel by defeating its defence force, they would have spent their resources, training & energy on proper combat weapons to take on the IDF instead of just aquiring crude instruments of terror.

Would you care to lay out the criteria for a democratically established state? The UN resolution passed by an overwhelming majority and the land was historically Israels.

You make the UN sound like its a single country - you are aware it is an international organisation right?

In history borders were set for most countries through war. Israel should just attack it's enemies now and drive the the borders are far out as possible. Let the best man win...

What person has the right to "own" land, and by what authority, in any case?

In our world the land is owned, the sky is owned, the seas are owned, fresh water is owned. There are patents on species of life. String together a few words from the English language, and this very likely is owned too [go on, "Just Do It"(TM)(c)]*. For pete's sake, even the design of the wheel is patented and owned! What next, will the right to breath air or have children be claimed by someone?

Point is that these things are not ours to own. The lands of the middle east are just as much mine as they are Hezbollah's or the Jews' or anyone else's for that matter. The sea and the air and the sky belongs to me as well as you.

I'm saying that the middle east will continue with their wars until 1 thing happens: humanity progresses beyond private ownership of public commons.

Part of letting go of our obsession with "owning" everything is letting go the idea that certain people or certain groups of people "own" G0d**, because that's essentially what organised religion is- it's the idea that a single group of people have the monopoly on G0d; that they alone hold the right to tell others what G0d wants; and that they alone have access to all the wonders that G0d has to offer in life and after life. Organised religion is about the privatisation of G0d.

In the middle east both sides claim a right to the land by virtue of their group's sole, exclusive access to G0d, who has apparantly given them the authority to occupy such land. To say that one side is "right" and the other is "wrong" is, on a universal level, to bow to and accept the idea that G0d and G0d's will can be privatised and "owned" by a certain group of people.

If you accept my argument that organised religion is about the privatisation of G0d, then sometime it should occur to you that it's ridiculous to even think that the lowly human species could "own" G0d. And in the same way that we can never really own G0d, we can never really own land.

It is useless to argue about who is right or wrong in this specific conflict in the middle east, because ultimately it becomes an argument about who "owns" things that cannot be owned. Both sides claim that they "own" the land because they claim to "own" sole access to G0d, and their ownership of the land is 'what g0d wants'. The real fault here lies with humanity's way of thinking that such things can be solely "owned" by one group to the exclusion of other groups.

To fix the problem we don't need a political solution, we need a paradigm shift. This is happening, no doubt about that, though the real question to ask is will this paradigm shift happen in time to save us from ourselves?

[/Philosphical rant over]
