Israel to expand settlements

Lol, that is all I wanted to hear. Thank you Za1 for coming to the party. You never do fail to fulfill our expectations :P

And you know I'm right. You can't grab land from something that doesn't exist. The area is disputed, who says it is palestinian land, there are no defined borders, so there is actually no issue here.

I would love to hear Garyvdh's justification of this land grab. Come on now, let's hear it.

I'm guessing, God gave the zionists this land, so they can do whatever they want?

It would be hilarious to see what you can conjure.

It’s a security issue rather than a land grab. It makes excellent military sense to create a buffer zone between potential enemies and Israel proper. Interpose vigilant, trained & armed citizens between those with hostile intent and the bomb able school busses and shopping malls of Israel. Citizens would not be too put-out about running a beefed-up neighborhood watch – they are militarily trained and it’s for their own security and that of Israel. If the crunch comes and the males are called to war, the women can care for the home and children and quite capably, take over any neighborhood watch duties. Even in the case of total war the family unit stays together and an essential defensive service is being performed. A rational division of labour with borders, homes and families protected while the males kick butt. Procedures need to be rehearsed, duties allocated, etc. so that it all works smoothly and seamlessly. ‘Freedom fighters’ attempting to infiltrate through this gauntlet?

Bwahahahahahahaha!

Seriously why do you think America is building the largest embassy in the world in Iraq, it is called "the city within a city". This is their "Department of Oil Affairs". They want to counter the Iran(Shiite) influence that encourages Arab independence from meddling Western powers. Why are western powers meddling? Oil, Energy whatever you want to call it. This is what the US calls its "interests" in the Middle East. American energy giants like ExxonMobil donate heavily towards election campaigns so that the govt will look after their interest. The wishes of the people take the back seat after the elections. Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same coin. Its only during election that the Democrats start portraying themselves as more "socially" minded but after that it is business as usual with big corporates calling the shots in govt. Of course Americans are not stupid and that's why you have "Occupy Wall Street" going straight to the root of the problem.

America's corporate greed knows no boundary and influences foreign policy in no small measure. Look at Haiti an impoverished country. You would think America would encourage local farmers and businesses to trade. It is the exact opposite, America subsidizes its own farmers heavily who then dump their goods (red meat especially) in Haiti rendering local farming redundant and unprofitable. America then goes to the World Trade Organisation and whines when another country tries to impose tariffs on American exports. Poor Haiti is such a minnow state they have no choice but to toe the line. Other powerful states (canada, mexico) have successfully resisted such maneuvers.

Why not do it on their own land tho?

Um, you do realize that Iraq is a member of OPEC and charges the US the same rate that it charges anybody else?
You do also realize that the US has propped up the Iraqi oil industry several times by buying up all of it's reserves in order to pump money into the Iraqi economy?
You do also realize that none of the US Oil companies are allowed to drill in Iraq or own any land or assetts in Iraq?
You do also realize that the US was buying just as much oil from Iraq before the invasion as after the invasion?
In fact nothing much has changed regarding Iraq's oil exports except that Saddam set a lot of the refineries and wells on fire when the invasion began causing great damage to their own economy.

What about oil being sold in dollars again gary?

Not the best website on the topic but it has very interesting information
http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Iraq/Iraq_dollar_vs_euro.html

Read this gary regarding the drilling and so on, paints a very different picture to what you said.

They bought up all of iraq's supplies to try and decrease the oil price but it wasn't enough and the saudi's would not increase their output. Remember a while back they pushed out all that extra oil to try help the price gary? Good idea though i was not against that.

Also gary the US don't go into these countries to control and take the oil money, their objective is to ensure the big oil producers do not increase the oil price, if my theory is correct i am all for that in all honesty.

I also don't have a problem with it. As long as the USA is buying at fair market value, and trying to keep prices sane and trying to help Iraq by pumping massive amounts of money into their economy. There is nothing wrong with that. OK, so they kinda helped destroy the Iraqi economy, but as I said, they are buying just as much as they were before, if not more. And they have dumped Billions of dollars into Iraq. Heck they even left all of their military infrastructure there for Iraq to use. The only way that Iraq is not better off than before is in terms of the ongoing violence and thousands of people killed in the war. :(

Yup but for me that is that is massive problem because that civil war ain't going to end anytime soon sadly.

The US have good intentions(hmmm the jury is out on that one) but they know the arabs cannot get along and ignore the signs of civil war, so i am not really sure what their end goal in iraq was but they got a big oil producer back to the dollar and if that never happened opec could very well have moved over to the euro.

We should also remember the war in iraq affected the oil price in a big way. At one point it nearly hit 200 dollars if my memory is any good :D.

Well, given all the changes in governments in that region (and some may still change soon), in ten years the region might look quite different.

We'll have to come back then and compare notes.

If you find anything in my posts that seem partial to you, you can always ask me to base my opinion with rational thinking. I shall kindly oblige.

My post wasn't meant as a personal attack on anybody, but after re-reading it I realise that it may be taken that way. It wasn't my intention to call anyone out, just to clarify.

To be honest GTi, people can rationalise anything. Like I could rationalise Robert Mugabe's stupid behaviour if I really wanted to. So it comes down to what you want to rationalise and in your case you would want to rationalise the behaviour of the faction that you've decided to side with.

Ask yourself this... has there ever been an Israel/Palestine situation where you concluded that maybe just MAYYYBEE Palestine was wrong in that particular situation. If you have never concluded that they may have been wrong in atleast a few instances, then your blindly bias.

This goes to the guys on Israel's side too... I basically believe that the situation is childish and not necessary.

There is a third group - one that suggests the warmongers from the one side get together with the warmongers from the other side, kill each other off and let those who just want to get on with their lives in peace and harmony do so.

I would belong to this group then :D

Strange idea of independence.

While the incident involving Neda attracted widespread media attention, The Guardian is also maintaining a list of numerous other people who have ostensibly been either killed or arrested since the election.[98] The government has issued very little official information on who has been killed or arrested (except Neda Agha-Soltan, whose video circulated quickly on the internet). Hospitals were prohibited from registering the dead bodies or injured people, as a medical student at Rasoul-Akram hospital witnessed on the night of June 15: "Nine people died at our hospital and another 28 had gunshot wounds... [the government] removed the dead bodies on back of trucks, before we were even able to get their names or other information... No one was allowed to speak to the wounded or get any information from them."[99] Hospital staff protested due to the restrictions.[100] The government admitted to at least 27 fatalities in Tehran, while CNN and other news organizations reported 150 unconfirmed casualties from June 20 protests.[101] International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran counted 34 of them, claiming to have eyewitness reports of much higher numbers.[102] Human rights activists in Iran called for independently collecting information about the killed, injured and arrested people.[103]

Among those who are killed by the government forces, names such as Sohrab Aarabi, Naser Amirnejad,[104][105] Masoud Hashemzadeh[106] and Mohammad Kamrani[107][108][109] are confirmed. Among them, the death of Sohrab Aarabi received special news attention, after Mousavi and Karroubi visited his family.

The families of those who died were allegedly subjected to penalties and bureaucratic red tape, such as being asked to sign paperwork that they do not have complaints against the government prior to being allowed to claim bodies. When the death was due to gunshot wounds, some were reportedly asked to pay a $3,000 fee, ostensibly for the bullet used by security forces.[110] Restrictions on burial locations have also been reported,[110][111] and the Iranian government did not permit a memorial service for Neda Agha-Soltan.[111] Time magazine speculates that the Shi'ite cycle of mourning on the third (June 23), seventh (June 27) and 40th (July 30) day after a person's death may give the protests sustained momentum, similar fashion to what occurred during the 1979 Iranian Revolution.[112]

Ok, bad move by Netanyahu BUT, if he is simply building up lots in areas where Israel already has settlements then I see why he would make the comments he did. Once Hamas is willing to broker peace with Israel I reckon we will see the start of the process towards Palestinian state but it seems they are more intent on launching rockets wildly.

And the rockets will never stop until there is a complete withdrawal from all Palestinian territories including, but not limited to, East Jeruselam, West Bank and Golan.

Golan and East Jerusalem won't be ceded, in fact they are recognized as Israeli territory. A complete withdrawal from the West Bank won't happen either. Last time they did that they landed up with terrorist's launching rockets at them. So it looks like we better get out our rocket proof umbrella's

Those are recognized as Israeli territories by Israel and the US. Not the World Court. The international community has never recognised East Jeruselam as Israeli territory. From whence did you conjure that weird notion in your head? Lol, but anyways, I'm not going to get into that argument again.

Just out of interest, what peace settlement do you actually expect the Palestinians to accept? Gaza and the few homelands:/ or what's left of the homelands after the illegal settlement construction? Lol, really? You expect peace by offering them Gaza and parts of West Bank?
