Hi myBB,

bit of a long story but here goes,

switched on my laptop this morning, Samsung notebook np300E5C, power light flickers and then goes off,
tried with battery, without battery, with ac adapter, no ac adapter, same thing wont turn on,

this point take out my HDD, try now, switches on, but cant boot into anything,

take HDD plug it in another PC, works like a charm, run victoria, no errors detected
take it and try and connect it and boot with my HDD sitting in a external casing,
boots, asks for startup repair, let it run, says done, restart, shows starting windows, bluescreens too quickly, and restarts again.

what could be wrong here? HDD or Mainboard? should I run more tests to see if something else on the HDD could cause this?

suggestions?, comments?

Sup Bud

On the PC that you tried it on..........did you boot up from you hard drive or just accessed it from MY computer ?

Could be the boot sectors on the hard drive....

You took hard drive from the laptop and tried to boot Windows from this drive on another PC? In most cases it won't work. Hard drive appears to be working.

I would check another power supply first, take it to the shop, they will check it for you. Before judging on motherboard I would remove CPU radiator, clean it and apply new thermal paste. Just in case.

plug the laptop in
withouth the battery
hold power button for 10 sec

then
leave it plugged in for 30 sec - 1min
with the battery out
then, while plugged in insert the battery
leave it for 15min before trying to turn it on

edit:
if this helps leave the laptop.plugged in until fully charged
you can use it, but must be connected to mains.

if this does not help, take it in for testing/repair.

Can you access the BIOS at all with the HDD or without it? (You should have options for UEFI with secure boot, UEFI and BIOS/CSM/Legacy boot modes)

Can you boot from a CD or USB stick with or without the HDD and can you access the bios under any of these?

This is one of the samsung models that could potentially suffer from a bricked uefi bios and not allow windows to boot.

this is my one, its that UEFI bug for sure, tried all of the above suggestions, completly and totally borked, no screen display at all or if it shows the BIOS its frozen on that screen. all the hallmarks of that exact problem

long story short, took it to samsung woodmead, got some BS story about removing and replacing HDD voiding your warrenty,
even tried another BS story about RAM being swapped, even though I never went near my RAM.

fought with them, told me a quote for R3.5K ( which is the cost of a new one) stood firm, eventually agreed to fix it under warrenty
(as Im not the only one with this issue), now sitting and waiting to get it back from reapir, ETA next week sometime, only getting parts on the weekend.

Im now waiting to see what corporate BS story they will pull on me when I go to collect it!
just want to cover myself properly that whatever I did, didnt void its warrenty.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions :D

Thankfully Samsung laptops won't be around for much longer.

according to the one sales guy I spoke to at the Samsung store, they going out of production very soon, (NP300E5C)

they just throw the last ones onto the 3rd world dumping ground that SA is.

problem is I feel like a a#$# buying cheap garbage like Samsung, as they make the components that go into Dell and HP products, I always thought being the first point of call their products should be better,

not so it seems!
