Good day.

This is a list of ongoing problems with Verizon Blackberry Phones based in South Africa.

The following need to be done first.
1) For dialing issues, please change Smart Dialing to South Africa.(Menu->Options->Phone options->Smart Dialing-> Country Code: South Africa). Smart dialing changes a number(082 123 4567) to (+2782 123 4567). If smart dialing is set to UK, it will dial +4482 123 4567 instead. That's the problem for the dialing issue.

2) Set Date/Time to South Africa time zone(Menu->Options->Date/Time->Time Zone: Harare(+2), and also set date and time to manual and manually set the date and time.

To stop future problems from occuring.
1) Type "##00000" and then the green button to get the the Verizon menu.
a) Change "Mobile Directory Number" to your number(example. 27720000000).
b) Change "SIP USER ID:" to :"[email protected]". Example:"[email protected].
c) Change "MIP USER ID:" to :"[email protected]". Example:"[email protected].
d) Change Reverse Tunneling Support to "false".
e) Hit menu, and save and phone will restart.

For the locked phone(or if you think it is), chances are that the phones are unlocked. If it shows MTN or Vodacom in the background, then it is unlocked. If it says, Activation required, do the following:
Dial ##000000 and hit the green button. Change ur mobile directory number by one number(or change the number to your number in international format), hit menu and save.

If you do figure out that the phone is locked, please inbox me and i will get the phone unlocked for free for you. Does take a few days(max 3days), but it is at no charge.

BIS so far works on MTC and Vodacom. Cellc does not work last time i checked, and I have not personally tested 8ta. If you notice, no USSD codes work on the Verizon phone(eg. *123#) until BIS is active. With 8ta though, it does seem to work when sim is first inserted. Not 100% sure how long it works for though.

To activate BIS, do the following

Vodacom
a) Fill the airtime by dialing the number and entering the voucher code(has to be done this way as ussd codes do not work yet).
b) Sms "blackberry" to 100.
c) Wait for sms.
d) Restart Phone.

MTN
a) Fill the airtime by dialing the number and entering the voucher code(has to be done this way as ussd codes do not work yet).
b) Insert sim in any other phone except the Verizon Blackberry.(Otherwise you can call their service centre for help but no guarentee that they will help)
c) Dial "*141*11#"
d) Select 1-Activate Blackberry.
e) Wait for sms.
f) Restart phone.

If you have any questions, pm me.
