Hi Guys

Read a bit about the corporate bullying of trademark and other similar named sites and was wondering if it would be a problem to register a co.za site if a com site or company already use the name? Who has had experience in this.

It is kinda like finding a gmail adress that is not already taken :p

Also who is good to go with to register a co.za?

Cheers

To register co.za domains it's best to go to the source - http://www.co.za - it's only R50 per year.

If you register a tradmarked name such as coca-cola.co.za or google.co.za you are in for **** because it's blatant cyber squatting and copyright infringment, but if you go after companies whose names are also dictionary words you can get away with murder.

E.g. register checkers.co.za and put up a page about the game of checkers - there's no simple way for the supermarket to prove you "stole" thier name when you have a reasonable claim to the domain because you are a fan of the game.

Damn, it's already taken. :p

Actually, checkers.co.za isn't mapped correctly. :wtf:

If the company, who owns the .com domain, has an international trademark you stand a real good chance to loose the domain if they decide to take actions. Something like blackberry.co.za will definately lead to a loss.

If it is not a trademarked domain you can go for the .co.za version.
