Hi,

I've tried streaming videos and music to a xbox or ps3 as a media center but I hate not having the meta data show up on the console.
I've tried ps3 media server, tversity, xbmc but nothing seems to be able to pass dvd covers and album covers.

Does anyone know how to get that passwed when streaming media to a console

I've never heard of that being done, where exactly would the metadata be sourced from?

password only comes from Media center when setting it up, then password is inputted on the PC in windows media center to have the xbox as a extender, as for metadata i dont know, seems a waist to me, why would you want to look at dvd covers anyways, its either watch the movie or not, not stare at the cover, music too just look at the album name, or when playing music use a visualizer

Well on XBMC on a PC/Apple TV it pulls down information like the synopsis, fan art as well as imDB ratings which is quite useful when looking for something different to watch.

Try putting the Covers in the folders as movie.extention.cover.jpg and movie.jpg ie.
air bud.avi.cover.jpg / air bud.jpg
From what I've seen most Media streamers use this to pass cover data

The solution and less headache for the OP would be to replace streaming to Consoles with a proper Media player. They are cheap and would handle metadata superbly :)

I shall leave the others to post which one to get or you can head over to the PC Hardware & Gadgets Forum and view recent threads regarding this.

Not what you wanted to hear but will save you countless hours of time wasted :p

You have to setup to se media center on your xbox 360.You can follow this guide
http://support.xbox.com/en-ZA/xbox-360/troubleshoot/media-center-faq

Install media browser plugin... it makes it real smart.

The issue I have though is media browser is very slow big lag on menu system

An alternative and expensive way would be to order Boxee Box( have not used it but am tempted) available at Takealot

http://www.takealot.com/browse/?type=&qsearch=boxee+box

I used to use the WMC plugin called Media Browser to watch movies via my XBox. Does everything you want it to.

I now use Mezzmo on my server and WDTV devices hooked up to each TV.

O.o

You know PS3MS/TVersity all run on UPnP right??? Meaning no fanart for the background, and no plot lines show when you have selected your desired movie. The best you can do is in PS3MS is to add thumbnails to the movies. Cant remember where to enable this exactly, but I think its either at the Transcode settings, or where you enter your IP address.

Then go to this site and paste your desired movie poster and let it convert it for you.

http://www.worldinhidef.com/ps3ms/thumbnailgenerator/

Then paste the new .png file into the same file directory as the original file with the same name for example:
gladiator.avi (original file)
gladiator.avi.png (thumbnail file)

Now ask yourself , is it really worth it doing all that effort especially if you have more then 700 movies?

If your answer is "yes"
Then just make sure there both in the same folder. Oh I also noticed if you dont have a "thumbs.db" file in the folder it doesnt work. so make sure to have one present in the folder at all times.

TIP. No thumbs will appear If you try this on a 360, only on PS3

I Used to use my PS3 as my media server ALL THE TIME.. But left me thinking... THERE AS TO BE SOMETHING BETTER seeing it just didnt appeal to me, felt bland , and useless (not to mention the XMB taking ages to load a list if you got a HUGE collection). So I got myself a cheap R2000 PC ... And installed XBMC Live (a Linux based Media center). The only Media center you'll ever need!!!!
