Hey Guys

For a while I've noticed an issue when I stream videos off my laptop (off my external hard drive actually), whenever I have new videos on the external (generally the weekly series episode) and I want to watch it through the xbox, these new videos either don't show up or don't play. As soon as an episode is on the external I immediately share my whole 'series' folder, even then the episode won't show up. Using an Xbox 360 Elite. All videos are mp4.

Anyone else experiencing these problems or know of a fix? :)
Thanks

Do you update the media library within xbox?

 media library within Xbox?
I'm not using the media centre, if thats what you're talking about.
Edit: Do you mean the library in WMP? didn't know you had to update the library in WMP:D

Opps sorry should of said so :o
well basically the xbox is connected to the 'homegroup' files are shared on the home group(series and movies folders are under the main 'video' folder) and the xbox accesses the videos through the shared files on the system video player. Media Centre is a waste of time for me. There's already a lot of stuff on the External (2TB only 980GB left), I dont have any space to move things from external to pc/other devices.

Real dumass question but did you install the optional media player update on the xbox?

Yeah I did, changed the locale so I could download the files needed to play other codecs. Is there a new update out recently? lol that might be the problem then.

well no need to change locale any more works on RSA account. So can see when last you updated :D
If all fails maybe try running simple streaming software on your laptop - i use serviio.org it does a decent enough job - the xbox will see it below the drives in the system video player.

Got it before it available in RSA:whistle: Ok I'll try it out, just tried updating my WMP library so I wanna see if that has any affect.
EDIT: so it seems that I had to sync/update my video folders within WMP library in order to view them from the xbox's video system. Thanks for the help guys

Try using the Plex media server to transcode those videos but be warned i had poor compatibility with many videos that flat out refused to play on Xbox 360 so i bought a Roku 3.
Xbox 360 seemed sketchy on MP4 and MKV files, but Plex did a better job then all other media servers i tried.
