I have been using a Hauwei E220 for the past 2-3 years to log into the VPN at work. I finally got around to upgrading the modem to the new K3805-Z USB stick. I am still using the same old (64K) SIM card in the new modem. Regular internet browsing works fine , but it wont connect to the VPN - times out after a few minutes. (using Nortel Convity) If I insert the SIM card into the old E220, it works without a problem.

Does anybody have any idea why I'm experiencing this problem with the K3805-Z?

OS : Windows XP (SP3)
Client : Nortel Contivity

You gonna need to setup the K3805-Z as a normal Windows Dun Connection. And connect without using the VMB Dashboard. Connecting to the VPN should work after this.

Need help setting up the K3805-Z as modem?

Thanks for the help. I will give it a shot and let you know how it goes.

I'm having problems getting it to connect to Vodacom.

In the DUN connection, the phone number I used is *99# .....no username and no password. Also added the initialization string to the advanced properties of the modem (at+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet" )

When I click "connect" it says "connecting" for about a minute, then it gives an error message that reads "Error 777 : The connection attempt failed because the modem (or other connecting device) on the remote computer is out of order" (pffft!)

Any help would be great

EDIT : I have also run some diagnostics against the modem to make sure the drivers are correctly installed - no issues there.

EDIT2 : Looks like its failing when it attempts to dial :

Is the VMB dashboard open while attempting to connect?

And does the SIM require a PIN?

No, VMB is completely uninstalled.

Yes, the SIM requires a pin. (smacks forehead)

Where would I enter the pin?

Put the SIM in a phone and disable it.

That was the problem! Thanks a million for your support. Its much appreciated.

I cannot test the VPN access now....my token is at home. Once I test that, I will let you know if it works.

Iam3G --> Thanks a mil. I just tested the VPN connection with my token and it worked off the bat. Appreciate the help.

For some reason though, the 3G connection is so slow......I cant even browse the internet, let alone do any work on the VPN.

But, the main thing is that it works now...... Thanks again for your time.

Resolved!

The performance degradation last night must have been an issue on Vodacom's side. The connection to the VPN is blazingly fast this morning.

Thanks again for the support Iam3G
