I have a couple issues with my 3G card (Option)

The first one is that my computer screen goes black and my machine hangs, if I reinstall it takes about a day to recreate the problem. It has gotten so bad that the computer doesnt restart unless I remove the card. The other issues is that even if my dashboard showing downloading and uploading the actual connection is at 0 kbps.

I have reported all errors to Vodacom, and through sheer frustration, I reloading Windows XP Pro 1a, and only installed drivers and the 3G card, I found the issue of downloading still there, and also found that the machine crashes if I have more than one profile, or if I try to switch from 3G to GPRS. If I keep one profile I only have the issue of the connection dropping. I have tested this in two areas, Alberton and Rivonia.

The data centre is researching this to see what the solution is but apprently this is not limited to SA but has been happening overseas as well. Alberton doesnt have very good 3G coverage and to reinstall everytime I go between the two areas is not a solution to me.

The lastest firmware was updated on the card yesterday and I am using version 5 of the dashboard.

The other things that have been installed is Nortons, and all windows updates have been done. I am using a Toshiba Tecra S2 laptop, and the bluetooth on the machine has been uninstalled.

Any ideas?

Another one!!

I live in Jeffreys Bay and use a TOSHIBA A60 laptop. When at home using GPRS/3G everythings is fine, but the moment I use the laptop at my wife's work in town where only GPRS is available the whole screen goes blank/dims down. I have flashed the 3G card to firmware V14 and am currently downloading Ver 5 of the dashboard. Everybody thinks I'm mad when I tell them what is happening!!

Please keep the forum posted if u manage to resolve this issue, it would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you guys tried to swop the data card with another one. The screen dimming sounds like a power issue, maybe a faulty card?

Also there are known problems with Norton, but I don't think it's causing these blak screen problems.

I'd first try and swop the card out at one of the walk-in centers.

Have tried a different card, no-go.

Worked OK for an afternoon with dashboard V4.2, this mornin blank screen again!!

Downloading dashboard V5 now, see if that will fix/address the issue?

Will keep the forum posted

Been to the data centre in Vodaworld they tried a differnt card and sim, which didnt help, also I am using ver 5 of the dashboard and the cards firmware has been updated.

Rats, those were the easy options.

Won't you post your exact Laptop model numbers? There is an 'unofficial' blacklist floating around. I'll check if your systems are mentioned.

Forumites can then also comment if they have similar models.

Please check mine, this is driving me nuts?

Try defragment and system restore from bootup.Press F8 then choos windows domain restore, Clean up your system and reinstall the 3g card,(take out the drivers, the install them manually)
If that dont work. Replace your card, or phone tech support and see what they say:)

Hi guys,
If you have installed SP2 ( which I can recommend ) then there is one important update to have. Its WindowsXP-K887742. I remember it being posted previously, the reason was something to do about the dashboard interacts with OS at the same level as anti virus software, and it avoids a conflict. Or something like that. Try install - might help. But I think V3G is on the money, it sounds like a hardware conflict with your laptop and card.

my 1.5c :)
