iStore blasted by 2oceansvibe

We should all blog about this too, link to 2oceansvibe's posts, and to each other - increase the visibility. Anyone with super linguistic skills want to try your luck with slashdot?

Core is actually more of a nuisance than anything else...I WISH Apple would sort things out for us. I don't understand how they sit back and let Core completely ruin their brand in this country....

He's just upset because they wanted an email address. Then some comment posters moaned about salespeople not hounding them (like in IC) when they enter the premises.

Gee, give a fake email address if you will and a fake name....

okay and?

Just got some more info first hand, Apparently Seth was being a a-hole at "Bradley" and generally being abusive before "Bradley" asked him for his details. He also has a history with Karen the ex store manager, being abusive in general. Seems he just treats people he views as "staff" in a generally k@k way. I know if I was dealing with Seth and this is the way he was treating me I would have told him to f-off to Incredible Corruption.

Seems Core and Seth have lots in common.

I dont think the particular incident with Seth on its own is too major But it has highlighted an issue which (judging by the number of comments on the story) resonnates with a lot of people.

So while I dont think his issue on its own justifies a letter to Steve I think anything which publically exposes the poor service and general rip-off that is Core is a good thing.

Thats a bit of 180 there don't you think?

Not really, I still think that Core should not be the sole importer of Apple products and that they should have competition. My biggest wish is that Apple would come in and start trading as official Apple but there's always 3 sides to every story and that's why I posted this.

wouldn't really call that "Apple Store" treatment? :D

And guys, to be fair, I'm not sure incredible connection give you a better "Apple experience" as opposed to an iStore? or am wrong? As people have said, some of the iStores are pretty good, Menlyn iStore for example.

Someone who deals with customers should be able to deal with a bad attitude. If I told rude customers to f-off (and in my job I get to deal with my share of high-paying arse-holes who think it's their god given right treat everyone around them like ****), I'd lose my job pretty quickly.

I once dealt with a customer was came to me and demanded that I make a copy of all the prices in the store. Told him to get the prices online seeing as those prices are the most up to date and that the prices change day to day. He called my a rude arrogant prick for not doing as he told me. I nearly klapped him off his feet. I dont care about losing my job if somebody has this type of attitude problem.

First hand fact

What a pity that something constructive has taken this turn. I'll begin by saying that the article was pretty much solely aimed at iStore, with Bradley being a feature - not the point. He happened to be there and he happened to be the driver of the store's policy - which is the problem at hand. You'll note his name is not contained in the headline.

Regarding my "abuse" of Bradley, how is this possible if I knew exactly what I wanted and asked for it and got to the counter with it? How much abuse could there be in this interaction? There was no discussion or extended forum available to allow any form of abuse.

furthermore, if Bradley casts his mind back, he would recall that we actually shared a laugh together before approaching the counter. He smiled and asked "do you want the silver one or the pink one?" I acknowledged the suggested humour in me prancing around with a pink iPod, smiled and said, "I think we'll go for the silver one!" We laughed together at that point and walked directly to the counter.

That is an absolute fact and, again, I stress that this was never an attack on Bradley.

So ja, you can turn this into anything you want, but these are the facts and I think we should keep our eye on the ball.

Thank you very much.

Seth

Thanks for the reply Seth, as we all know there's always 3 side's to every story.
But anyway, I hope that the fact that you brought up these issue's does get some action from Apple to either establish a real Apple store in SA or to allow more than one reseller to import Apple products, maybe if there was more competition we, as Apple users, will have better and better service and value for money.

Cheers.

I admit I became agitated once my personal details were requested and the first form of this came when asked "would you mind if I took your address down" to which I replied "yes, I would mind."

This was obviously deemed "being an a**hole" or "abusive" in some people's books, but, I mean REALLY, he asked if I would mind. And I did. and I still do.

Then it turned out the cellphone number was not optional.

The result was the article.

okay and?

And buy the item using a fake email address or buy it somewhere else.

For me, the issues with the local Apple presence are more serious than a front desk grunt requesting personal info. It's a pity but Apple despite making decent equipment - have a lousy presence here.

Cheers.

You can mind and decline without being overtly rude, I dont know you so i have no idea how it came across. But i have been on the receiving end of ppl who think they can treat you like trash because they are paying money for a product, and it does get a bit much. On the flip side, he should have made a plan, its shocking sales service and a complete stupid policy on core's side. (given them spamming my email address i would not give them any details either.)

I hope something decent comes out of this, since core has had its time and needs to be dismissed, bit i wont hold my breathe. Why ppl still support the Istores and Za store is beyond me, let the stores sit and pay rent and have no foot traffic. They should not be selling to the public anyways..... Rather do all your research and go purchase your product from any other reseller.

The customer has a right to become agitated. He should not, but then again the clerk started it - he should have handled the customer better. For example: "I'm sorry sir but we need your email address for xxx."

What would have happened if the customer did not have a cell phone or an email address or lived overseas?

I blame iStore here, being someone too who occasionally gets upset when I see salestaff at banks or shops treat me as a moron meanwhile I'm wasting my money and time sorting their own incompetence out. Simple - Mr Salesman, get better training and don't take things personally. If someone is angry at a product they're angry at the company and not at you, unless you were the one who messed up - in which case you should't have issues.
