Hi there

For a while my gearbox used to get stuck changing gears and also never used to start. I had the entire clutch system replaced and the changing gears is fine now. I had electrical problems with my lights and still do and am going to get them sorted.

Recently it kept on switching off and would switch on a few minutes later. However, today it switched off while I was driving on the highway.

It is still swinging so I do not think it is the starter. I had thought it was because I had no diesel but i did, and even after filling diesel it did not work.

I checked and saw that no fuel is going to the engine and would like to know what the problem could possibly be and what i could do? need help urgently so would appreciate prompt replies...thanks so much

diesel needs a lot of pressure to work properly, and it you need to make sure there's no air blocks in the pipes. Most diesel engines have a hand pump at the front which you need to use to bleed the system. Loosen the pipe that goes to the engine. There's a small bolt on it, size 10mm, which you need to open slowly while pumping. You'll feel it being loose until it build up pressure in the pipes and the diesel squire out from the pump. To make it work a bit better, suck the diesel with a pipe as well till you get some out, then pump a few times more until the pump pumps harder, at which point you return the pipe to the engine and it should start.

If you look to the right of your engine you will see a white round plastic container with a round metal lid like button on top. It filters contaminants like water from your fuel. It has at the bottom a bleed valve, it is a plastic thingy with 2 wings and an outlet that looks like it should have a hose over it. You crack that open...it is a PITA..but don't take it off, just open it and the dirty fuel will run through.then you press down on the button on top and junk will squirt out at the bottom through that drain valva. Give it a coupla pumps. Then shut the valve at the bottom and pump that button on top again. you will feel it getting "harder' as you pump. when it is good and hard you've succeeded in pressurizing your system and the truck will start.
I had an older one the was a biatch to start and then she would run for a block or so and die. If you then pump it at the filter you would get the pressure back, and it would be perfect the rest of the day.....but tomorrow the same deal. I didn't drive it so I didn't bother, but I am sure an electric pump to pressurize would've worked.

Air and junk in that fuel filter will kill your engine like that, the only other reason it would stop running is if the diesel pump is worn. It will loose power suddenly and then you can just creep along for a while until it won't creep anymore These 250 engine were of the good type, they are tough as nails......my personal truck had close to half a mil K's om it and was still starting in the first turn with a layer of ice covering the bakkie.
