If I don't put a www in front of most our websites, then you won't find them! The www tells your lame puter to look for the web server, and not the mail, DNS or database server. Once you setup a large site which needs multiple server (i.e. separate DNS, SQL, SMTP/POP3/IAMP, etc) then you'll understand the significance of pointing the rigt traffic to the right server ;)

I would have thought that would be the scheme name part of the URL rather than an arbitrary part of the domain, never mind the fact that most people would be typing the address into a browser...

Converting www-prefixed domains to non-www prefixed domains is as easy as 2 lines in .htaccess. Using www is hardly old: most of the largest and popular sites online redirect to their www domain. I really don't see what the issue is unless going to the non-www version gives you an error rather than redirecting you, in which case it's the site's fault.

...and yeah, I've also started using Chrome as my primary browser as opposed to Firefox. I love them both, but for now Chrome has better extensions (that I use), is faster and safer.

IE Tab
Speed Tracer
Web Developer Toolbar
Firebug Lite
 
I was thinking Google Mail Checker plus - the best extension for GMail I've ever seen. Multiple accounts (Google Apps supported), desktop notifications (works on Windows 7, anyway), stunning UI with many options.

I use a combination of Google Alerter, Better Gmail & folders4gmail. Google Mail Checker has the Inbox Preview thing (which is awesome), but Alerter is one extension for GMail, Reader & Wave. I generally have GMail open in a Pinned Tab (i.e. awesome UI feature) anyway :)

Desktop notifications (works on Windows 7, anyway)

I enabled that on my Google Calendar the other day, haven't seen it in action yet...

Have you enabled the built in Flash support in the latest Dev build?

I use the Alerter at home, but I only have Wave and Reader enabled.

Pinned Tab. Wha.. ? Hey, cool! :D

Haven't enabled the dev build - I use the production/stable build at last check. I don't want it doing anything stoopid.

I used to think the same thing, been on the dev build for a few months now. [-]Zero[/-] one problem[-]s[/-] more features :whistle:
