It just died on me...

I transferred everything to my laptop but obviously forgot something. So I started up my desktop for the first time in 4 weeks. Everything went well until I moved the mouse cursor. Screen just went black and motherboard gave 3 x one second beeps. Pressed reset and it gives me the 3 beeps again and the screen doesnt come out of sleep mode. Unplugged everything and still just the 3 beeps with a dead screen. Can it be my graphics card?

Any advice?

I dont know. It does not have any LED's or fans. So i dont know if there is power on the card. When I unplug the monitor cable and replug it into the card it does switch the monitor on for 1 second and then back into sleep mode

The three beeps you getting is an indication that your memory on your motherboard is not seated properly , I can suggest that your remove the memory and take a standard rubber eraser and clean the contact points on the memory modules and put them back , also clean the slots as dust might have collected on the slots causing it not make contact.

It cannot be your vga card as this will give you one long beep every 3-4 seconds.

Well the Dust could have got into the contacts or it was just slightly loose and one last movement caused it to get looser, so as to stop the pc from functioning...

Vibration from the fan might cause it to creep loose - it was seated properly, but the clip wasn't fastened properly.

In older systems, most notably from the XT/AT era, "chip creep" was observed where the memory (and CPU) chip would gradually creep out of their sockets due to thermal expansion and shrinking with power on/off cycles...
