Im a 34 year old female.working as a cop and would like to study IT part time,or any other computor related course that will get me a job.I passed matric in 1993 with Maths as one of my subject.Pls help with any information including costs,options,duration,etc......

IT is a very broad term. What part of IT are you interested in, hardware or software? (Do you want to put computers together and maintain them or write programs/websites etc)

Also, how long are you looking at studying?\

p.s. It should be mentioned that IT isn't as easy as people make it out to be. You aren't going to do a 6 month part time course and then walk straight into a job that can pay off your house.

Consider a BSc in Information Systems.

I'm 36 and went that route with UNISA due to my age (2 more years left). The BSc IS gives you good foundations with regards to business, project management & basic development skills. A great all rounder as due to your age you will find most employers offering you a management role regardless of your years of development experience (IT is so broad that the term management is also rather vague).

Have you considered speaking to your department and asking for learnership/studies to try and get access to the IT Forensics division? You can then apply your existing knowlege to your new career path which would be something unique to offer.

This is a very good way to "start" an IT career late in life. You have an advantage in that you know the business end of your organisation. It also makes things easier for you as you are developing an IT solution using your knowledge of the business.

This is how I started. When I came to the UK 4 years ago, a lot of agencies where very impressed with my 7 years IT experience and business experience and qualifications( i have an accounting degree). 90% of the programming work out there is in financial services of some kind.
