I am considering submitting a reply on a RFP for outsourced IT support for a small to medium sized company.

Problem is that they have 30 users in JHB, 8 in Dbn, and ave 5 users in Pietermaritzburg, Cape Town, Limpopo (as per the RFP), Kimberly, Nelspruit, Welkom, Mafikeng, East London.

I have a small IT support business in JHB. It would be great to get the contract to support this company, and I could remotely support the machines around the country using teamviewer or logmein or similar, as long as there is connectivity and the machines boot.

So if the remote machines are not accessible remotely I need to be able to rely on IT support in that location.

Does anyone know of a group / community / co-operation network etc that I could use to find reliable local IT support?

I have tried searching the net, with no results. The idea i have is if there isn't one, we could create a informal group on MyBB for now and maybe throw some ideas around to create a database of sorts with listings of skills, experience, capabilities, areas covered etc. Maybe this opens up new opportunities for us as a group.

Please post your replies and we can maybe find something, or get something going..

Hi there

You might want to try the spiceworks community.

I have used it to find an IT professional in Joburg to go and collect server information for a project.

Great idea Electron1, count me in. I do primarily IT Support in the Lowveld region and I have assisted other companies from other provinces before. My skill-set is quite broad regarding IT Support (not dev.).

Great idea and difinitely a need for sharing of resources, anyone operating in the George , Knysna area for Desktop Support ?

Have you guys had a look at Windows Intune as a means to remote control and manage PCs at various remote locations? I'm a MS Cloud Partner, so if anyone wants a demo...

Hi guys busy !!!remote support, monitoring. Any one game?

PM's sent to all. Thanks so far for the response.

I want to keep this thread going over the next few days, to see if there are some good ideas to form a type of association.
If we can find a way to form a database of Small / Medium Business support consultants, it may lead to more work opportunities as well as more ways to share ideas.

Please post so we can keep this thread active.

I'm busy doing Chemical Engineering at Wits, so I'm busy most of the week. I don't mind helping weekends though, Sandton / Fourways / Midrand. I'm handy with hardware/data handling, did a bit of SQL/java/Matlab/mq4l back in the day. I reckon I can fix just about any network or hardware/data issue. Websites and stuff, not so much.

Fling me a pm if you desperately need a techie to help :)

Why don't we ask uncle rpm for a private sub forum where we can post our details and things and another thread with open tickets and job descriptions. We can turn it into an organised freelance system? That way people can offer to do jobs near them in their own fields.

And it will generate more traffic for mybb, maybe charge R10 for a job to be advertised on the forum.

Not a bad idea come to think of it.

Sounds great :)

Good idea, just not sure how we control access to a private subforum.
The organised freelance system is a great idea, what I was looking for is to get a "network" of support professionals together that hopefully will expand our individual capabilities as well as provide a way of providing the hands on support when needed country wide.

I actually have thought in the past about a few MyBB folk getting together and creating a business or support group.

I think between the members, each can contribute something - whether skills, time or anything else. I reckon a few of the guys with a little more time on their hands should create a reseller

I am currently in the process of setting up some sort of freelance network, mostly for business services. The networks I managed to find all charged membership fees, admin fees or whateveryoucall it fees. So I decided to start my own freelance network that does not have any fees attached to it.

Often a freelancer is aware of other services that the client needs, but cant help the client with it. By setting up a network, you can refer it to another freelances (for a referral fee) or you can make contact with someone that can help provide support in a different town to use you as an example.

Think about it and let me know, maybe we can pool resources and expand it to include IT services as well? Most businesses would need network/it/website support so it might be a good fit to combine it.

You can PM me here, or email me directly (follow the link in my sig to get my email address)

I think a lot of people are missing the point of this exercise.

There are many Social Networks and Networks which are free where you can get freelancers or folks for a specific task.

This one comes to mind:
SkillPages - find skilled people and get your skill found
www.skillpages.com

The point of the original post is for us as a community to pull together and share our expertise and do actual work based on our skills for the tender as required.
Throwing things around like I have my own company, contact me if you'd like to join is missing the plot in my opinion.

I have my own IT Support Business and getting work in is my primary concern. The rest of the "network" and ticket based systems doesn't really bother me that much. I've been burned in the past and therefore I will only outsource myself and not become involved further than I need to.
