IT web article - ASA

I'm thinking, in order to make very sure that Sentech do not use mind-numbing doublespeak to cloud the issue (in either the Media or the ASA case) - having a report with simple easy-to-understand graphs etc from a verified Expert perspective, which would stand up in a court of law - could be a useful addition to any current and future legal moves at Sentech.

I can't remember any reports of Sentech actually sending an "expert" from their offices to do an on-site reality check if th complaints of extremely low speeds actually are true.

It would have been small fry for them to be able to respond to the IT web (and other) articles if the speeds were up to scratch.

If I remember correctly a certain Dr Potgieter actually admitted that there was a problem, but that it would have been solved many Mondays ago.

I doubt if Sentech would be able to deny the press reports now after failing to do so for weeks.

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

Well done. They haven't respondced to me yet.

The ad agency is Scharrer Advertising (Tel: 011-463-0411) in Bryanston. The MD is Jocelyn Scharrer and the account director, Nicole Bruce. You could phone them and ask them provide copies of any Sentech advertising.

If they give you a hard time, remind them of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, No 2 of 2000, which was enacted on 3 February 2000, giving effect to the constitutional right of access to any information held by the State and any information that is held by another person and that is required for the exercise or protection of any rights.

I'm busy going through the Act and will write back shortly on its contents.

Just remember that websites count as advertising, a lot of misleading information is on the Sentech website. The ASA can hear complaints about any advertising.

Best someone cache a copy of the site before they go off and change it. I take it that the advertising used to "lure" us in (existing customers) would count? i.e if they suddenly started mentioning caps and throttling how would that affect current subscribers (they bend-over contract aside, I mean from an advertising angle) Since they advertised uncapped way back then and must provide that service for the duration of the payment period.

On the Promotion of Access to Information Act - I just don't know and it's somewhat impenetrable. Of course there is nothing on the Sentech Website about the Act, which I would regard as a requirement. There's also nothing in the Act at the Department of Communications.

As a matter of fun, this is direct off the Sentech Website. With MyWireless, it's not doing well:

I have an inferiority complex. But it's only a little one.

I also got a cached copy of the nowire site, which is extreme false advertising, the packages there are stated as 64-128, 128-256, 256-512, if needed, send me a mail.

Hi All

Nice to see that things are now moving in the right direction...for those who has mywireless and are experiencing slow speeds, with an action campaign like this one all complaints are looked at by ASA...so the more people complain, the more pressure there'll be on ASA to resolve these grievances. As for advertising, the world standard on ISDN are always advertised as up to 95% of the connection rate and I have to say that it's exactly what I'm getting out of my ISDN 128k connection. Anyone here up to recording the TV add and sending that to them aswell?

Cheers
Guz
