hi all

i really need some help here. im pretty much going insane trying to figure out what laptop specs I need for WoW. IF I had R20k it wouldnt be a problem, but I dont...

Im told that you can pretty much run it on a x286... so I loaded it up the other day on a "older" laptop", it was a joke... the menu was running at about5 fps. Good thing I didnt go and buy something yet...

Im looking around R10k max R12k. Ive been looking at this site, which helps a bit..

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

The 8400M GS seems to be quite popular in my price range, does anyone have this graphics on their laptop?

I've decided that 15.4 widescreen would be better than 17 widescreen, coz then I can run a lower native resolution = better performance!

Please guys help :(

Thanks a lot

Ok seriously.

I was playing from lvl 1 - 70 x2 and raided with these chars on a 3.0ghz (64MB shared memory) 512 MB Laptop. All setting low and the FPS sucked but it was playable ;)

Currently I run more or less the same setup on a desktop. If you have a stupid arse machine with enough Ram and atleast 128MB GFX you should be fine. Nothing else is needed.

/gasp

Pitbull, I would hate to see what your game looks like!

Was looking awesome last night with my new GFX card, just to bad it crashed every 10-20 minutes /cry

But The Techie is going to sort it out for me :)

Good question. I am also looking for a Lappy that can run WoW (WOTLK incl.), perhaps WAR when I am home and maybe Titan's Quest / RPGish tpye games when I am out of the country.

And I would like to be able to crank up the GFX a bit.

Similar budget as HTC

Honestly laptops in the 10K range (with geforce 8400gs) run okay, but the fps is very low (I think it has more to do with the HDD than anything else)

Don't think you need anything more than this

http://www.laptopdirect.co.za/laptop_specifications.php?laptop=18097

and it's only R 10.2 k

specs
Acer TravelMate 5720G-812G16Mn (LX.TMT0Z.084), Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 2.1Ghz 3MB L2 Cache 800Mhz FSB, 15.4" WXGA Crystalbrite (1280x800 resolution) TFT Display, ATI Radeon X2400 256MB dedicated graphics, DVD SuperMulti writer optical drive, 160GB SATA 5400rpm Hard Drive, 2048MB DDR2-667 SO-DIMM Memory (2*1024), 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN & 802.11a/g/n Wireless LAN, Bluetooth, integrated camera, Microsoft Windows Vista Business Edition, Windows XP Pro CD's included, 6cell battery, 5-in-1 card reader, Acer 1 year collect and return warranty

"ATI Radeon X2400"

Meh - that card runs slower than a mobility X1600, which is like two years old.

Yeah, within a budget or around 10 - 12k, I think maybe either a 8400m GS or perhaps the HD 2600 XT?

I cant tell you how many laptops I saw this weekend...

crazy stuff.

so in this price range you looking at a nvidia 8400M GS as your best best. I found a forum with a review, and this guy specifically says that if you looking to run WoW on it, you will be A OK!

only problem is a found another forum... the WoW EU forum... saying that there are serious issues with the drivers for this chip. Apparently you get black screens while playing WoW. So I did some further investigating and it seems to be quite the problem... Nvidia 8400M GS driver for WoW... FAIL!

oh and Jase, 2600 XT is gonna be fat cash I reckon... its pretty high on this list, around the 30-40 area where 8400 M GS is around the 80 area. See below

Maybe I will end up selling something in my PC so I can afford decent laptop! :D

Love that site. I spend days on it just drooling at the specs. I guess the choices are limited when it comes to the 10k range.

i have that laptop, well slightly different.
Mine is also an A300 series except it has a core 2 duo 2.4.
The screen card is great and everything has been running well so far.

thats the one.
It doesnt look great but i only care about the gfx really.
