I've sent through a request to cancel, yes, less than 5 hours of having the account. Do not be fooled. Don't use Screamer. It's not really ADSL, with no public IP address, it's nothing more than an ADSL connection into their worthless wireless network setup. It's not unshaped. Torrents never reach more than 6kb/s, read my other posts and see why. And before anyone claims I know nothing about what I'm talking about **** you, I know more than you ever will

So after a few hiccups it appears to be living and breathing.

World of Warcraft ping seemed a bit high for an unshaped line (550-600ms but staying sub-600ms at least)

Then I did a tracert to one of my servers in the UK:

Code:
  1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1
  2 24 ms 21 ms 23 ms 10.216.148.1
  3 53 ms 49 ms 50 ms 196.25.27.166
  4 49 ms 49 ms 49 ms 196.15.204.82
  5 50 ms 51 ms 50 ms 196.15.204.81
  6 53 ms 56 ms 48 ms tpr-ip-esr-3-wan.telkom-ipnet.co.za [196.25.54.1
3]
  7 278 ms 308 ms 304 ms 196.43.9.54
  8 278 ms 290 ms 309 ms 213.161.92.181
  9 370 ms 330 ms 256 ms 213-152-232-123.available.lhr.above.net [213.152
.232.123]
 10 237 ms 238 ms 242 ms vl901.core1.lon.rackspace.net [83.138.138.35]
 11 421 ms 434 ms 411 ms vl911.core6a.lon3.rackspace.net [92.52.76.204]

 13 * 236 ms 259 ms 78.136.56.74

And mybroadband.co.za

Code:

  2 106 ms 22 ms 22 ms 10.216.148.1

  4 49 ms 49 ms 46 ms 196.15.204.82
  5 49 ms 52 ms 50 ms 196.15.204.81
  6 46 ms 46 ms 50 ms tpr-ip-esr-3-wan.telkom-ipnet.co.za [196.25.54.1
3]
  7 55 ms 52 ms 50 ms rrba-ip-lir-1-gig-0-0-0.telkom-ipnet.co.za [196.

  9 75 ms 82 ms 65 ms ge0-2.br1.jnb6.za.mtnbusiness.net [196.30.16.181
]
 10 57 ms 70 ms 59 ms ge11-0-0.gw2.jnb6.za.mtnbusiness.net [196.30.1.2
2]
 11 54 ms 56 ms 53 ms vlan9.hr3.jnb6.za.mtnbusiness.net [196.30.156.13
6]
 12 86 ms 75 ms 117 ms 196.30.213.108
 13 70 ms 96 ms 109 ms firewall1.jnb2.host-h.net [196.7.216.173]
 14 81 ms 89 ms 108 ms mybroadband.co.za [41.203.21.136]

Pings to mybb differ a bit, from 68ms average to 320ms average.

Pings to international seems a bit more "stable" at an average of 250ms to the site mentioned above in the UK.

Google ping is around 520ms with a dropped packet every 2nd ping (I only ping for the normal default duration of a ping). Which is kind of dissapointing.

Above doesn't really show me that they're using Seacom bandwidth though, unless someone can say they are? I can understand that locally they're not using Seacom, but the telkom-ipnet in the first tracert doesn't sit coshure with me.

Ah well, at least it's uncapped.... I know they're using both SAIX and Seacom bandwidth, but give me unshaped seacom bandwidth! Afrihost pings in WoW after hours is like 250-320ms on my line...

anyone else connected yet? want to ping/tracert a few stuff with me?

What the flying feck? You have an RFC-1918 IP on ADSL???

Uh. The tracert were done from a pc on his private lan behind the ADSL router.

2 24 ms 21 ms 23 ms 10.216.148.1

^^ look at the latency path... and the RFC-1918 at the end of it.

You mean a Private IP Address??

Nope it's not.

1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1 - router / WAP - Private IP
2 24 ms 21 ms 23 ms 10.216.148.1 - firewall / Gateway / DMZ - Private IP
3 53 ms 49 ms 50 ms 196.25.27.166 - ADSL modem - Public IP
4 49 ms 49 ms 49 ms 196.15.204.82

I'm guessing that the 1st line is the IP address of his router, which he has direct access to. The router is then connected to his gateway server / firewall / DMZ (such as Smoothwall, IPCop, iShield, etc), which in turn is connected to an ADSL modem.

Am I right?

Could you please traceroute:

4.68.95.11
64.235.225.51

And average ping, if possible :)

I think cda is referring to this:
Code:
2 24 ms 21 ms 23 ms 10.216.148.1

Unless AcidRaZor is using 2 routers with a number of km of cable between them - that IP is on the Screamer network

Sorry, I only looked at the first line.

Curious indeed. If this is true, these account have a major problem.

Surely they can't assign those IPs to their network? I thought it was illegal.

Anyway, how's about a speed test?

hop 8 doesn't seem to be an interroute IP, so I wonder if they're really using Seacom... hmmmm

Telkom provide the private blocks with the ipc if you do not have your own public blocks.

Doesn't matter, its internal routing.. Technically, screamer should reject udp traceroutes on those IP's so people like us don't question there network skills.

Acid, can you do a traceroute from your UK server to your ADSL IP?

Be interesting to see the route it takes
