I know not iPad related, but I stuck Rockbox on my iPod and never looked back.

Oh yes. Thats the end of freedom. Everyone MUST buy iPads and use iTunes.

Or jailbreak and transfer your eBooks (pdf I assume?) manually (via SSH or USB via something like iFunBox)

Are you using stanza?

You could use calibre and set up a wireless server and download the books directly in Stanza without using itunes.
Alternativly you could upload the books onto a webhost and download them in Safari and they will be put into Stanza.

I haven't had 1 day's problems with iTunes. Working 100% with both iPhone and iPad.

I've had nothing but problems with iTunes. Currently I can't get it working on my Windows 7 laptop, cause Quicktime doesn't want to install. Tried different versions, uninstalling, reinstalled, editing the registry etc etc.

Yesterday I found out you can only sync your Ipod on a single PC with iTunes. What an utterly brain dead idea.
