iTunes error when updating

I am trying to update applications bit get a error message saying can not connect to itunes
But I can download new applications etc
Does anybody know why this could be

Store was down yesterday. Should be working now. Are you still having issues updating apps?

I was trying to restart iPad to see if it would work
I held home button and power till apple logo appeared again but apps and safari still don't close?

Some apps will update and some give me this error
