iTunes is Stupid!!!

I understand the fact that it is my responsibility to back-up my files, not my argument!

My statement was about the fact that iTunes doesn't allow the transfer of files from the iPod to iTunes when there is no iPod registered with that version of iTunes.

It was a rant and not an underlying statement about software forsight and back-up procedures.

and just for the record, I THINK iTunes is Stupid. :D
Even if Itunes doesnt there still is plenty of software you could have used to restore your music from your iPod.

There are alternatives to iTunes - if you think it's stupid why use it?

I dont understand why Apple just didn't make the ipod the same as other mp3 players. Plug it into the USB port, go to file explorer on your PC and copy, paste, delete, cut etc... just the way you should on your PC.

Again, it has to do with copyright protection. They go to so much trouble to prevent users from copying music illegally, that they forget to incorporate simplicity into the design. :(

It's silly. Because I take photos with my own camera. It's not copyrighted. So I think that is where they made the mistake.

The photo's you take and transfer using the connector are transferable via drag and drop.

EDIT - camera photos are in a folder called 'DCIM'

They've sold more than 100 million iPods - I'm sure they're simple enough for most folks to figure out. ;)

Ok, so if I connect my iPod to the PC I will see the DCIM folder with the photos. MMmm. Now I learned something new. Thanks.;)
Depending on your set up you might have to enable disk mode - it's easier to do it via iTunes (you tick "enable disk use") but you can also do it from the iPod itself by pressing a key combination. Which combination depends on what model iPod you have.

For my Photo model you toggle the hold switch, reset it (menu+select), and when you see the logo you press play+select. To get it out of disk mode you need to reset it once more by holding down menu+select. Here are the full instructions from apple http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
