Indeed you can but not to a PC which is annoying as it is an integral part of my home entertainment system.

Thanks but what I'd really like is for the mini to be given the similar functionality as an AppleTV so I can stream music/video to such a device.

Well the two apps I use are streamtome and Apple's Home sharing.

Streamtome is a $3 app for iPad and iPhone that streams any video or audio file to your iOS device.

Apple's home sharing is free and works in iOS 4.3 and later. Just enable home sharing on your Mac or PC's iTunes, and go to Settings -> iPod on your iOS device, and type in your Apple ID.
