I've abandoned my principles...

Know that feeling. So wrong and yet it feels so right. 🤷🏼

Welcome
Just remember, only one external monitor for Air, but still a lekker machine to use. So you’ve come from windows? Need tips to stay sane (especially with the keyboard)?
Not true...
MacBook Air models with the M4 chip support up to two external displays simultaneously
Now you need to get used to macOS. Godspeed.
Command + C/V vs Control C/V. Much wow.

Not true.
Finder sucks big time.
Creating files with a right-click...
Running legacy software isn't always possible...
Running Windows VMs... not great

There are alot of shortcuts to get used to... mostly just different though, one of the big ones for me was Command + ~ to switch between instances of the current app vs Command + tab to switch apps. That distinction alone is actually a good thing, but takes getting used to...

All that said, Finder sucks big time.
I still need to figure out how to *change the default app to open json files to Sublime...
*Edit just figured that one out

Another thing I'm trying to figure out is how to install the free Acrobat reader. Seems simple enough but its just resorting to the commercial app after downloading free.
Why use keyboard shortcuts to switch between apps/instances. Gestures are so much easier

Thanks. Coming from Windows (work) and Linux (home). Need to do some iOS dev and figured I may as well just get the thing and use it for both instead of fighting to find ways to make Apple things work...

For high quality audio reproduction, any Mac is as good as a dedicated Linux machine and infinitely better than Windows

Most widely used file explorer in the world and it crashes for you daily? I think you just have **** luck.
Even M$ is trying to fix it… https://www.windowslatest.com/2026/...ut-its-been-slower-than-windows-10-for-years/
When Microsoft announced its renewed focus on Windows quality, one of the most important areas it called out was File Explorer. The company said it is working on a faster and more dependable File Explorer.

“Our first round of improvements will focus on a quicker launch experience, reduced flicker, smoother navigation and more reliable performance for everyday file tasks.”

This set of improvements is expected to arrive for Windows Insiders in April, with deeper, more fundamental changes rolling out throughout 2026.

One thing I'll give them credit for is battery life. Been busy setting things up for the past 3 hours and the battery dropped 6%...

Yeah and even nicer on the M5 you have three different performance modes, so when plugged in it can ramp to ultra super max mode.

On the plus side you getting the M5 (nee BMW) means you will be getting updates for years & years and years & you can jizz along with the oke(s) here that fawn for that :p

Lol. Welcome to the "over-priced, less functional desktop" club.
