I've abandoned my principles...

Most widely used file explorer in the world and it crashes for you daily? I think you just have **** luck.
Even M$ is trying to fix it… https://www.windowslatest.com/2026/...ut-its-been-slower-than-windows-10-for-years/
When Microsoft announced its renewed focus on Windows quality, one of the most important areas it called out was File Explorer. The company said it is working on a faster and more dependable File Explorer.

“Our first round of improvements will focus on a quicker launch experience, reduced flicker, smoother navigation and more reliable performance for everyday file tasks.”

This set of improvements is expected to arrive for Windows Insiders in April, with deeper, more fundamental changes rolling out throughout 2026.

One thing I'll give them credit for is battery life. Been busy setting things up for the past 3 hours and the battery dropped 6%...
I freaking love mac for the battery life. A year later and I'm still only plugging in once a day for short bursts.
Also you can't beat just closing the lid of your PC when you walk away. None of that "firing up while in your backpack" or those "sound like a 747 taking off" fans.

Those two things alone will keep me coming back.

p.s. Sometimes you have software running overnight and don't want it to go to sleep. A free piece of software called Amphetamine comes in handy for that (similar to Caffeine but free). I've also written a small app to get your external IP and copy it to the clipboard - useful if you are continuously having to whitelist your IP in web services. Shout if you are interested. I'll probably stick it on the app store one of these days.

Speaking of clipboard - copyclip is a winner

You can just run “caffeinate” in Terminal. No need for a whole app.

But if it’s plugged in and has a screen attached it won’t go to sleep anyway.

I believe with screen, and external keyboard/mouse connected.
Thanks for the caffeinate tip, I assume that's what amphetamine runs in the background. That said, it also gives access to a few useful quick settings for screen timers, etc.
