I've abandoned my principles...

I freaking love mac for the battery life. A year later and I'm still only plugging in once a day for short bursts.
Also you can't beat just closing the lid of your PC when you walk away. None of that "firing up while in your backpack" or those "sound like a 747 taking off" fans.

Those two things alone will keep me coming back.

p.s. Sometimes you have software running overnight and don't want it to go to sleep. A free piece of software called Amphetamine comes in handy for that (similar to Caffeine but free). I've also written a small app to get your external IP and copy it to the clipboard - useful if you are continuously having to whitelist your IP in web services. Shout if you are interested. I'll probably stick it on the app store one of these days.

Speaking of clipboard - copyclip is a winner

Welcome
Just remember, only one external monitor for Air, but still a lekker machine to use. So you’ve come from windows? Need tips to stay sane (especially with the keyboard)?
M4 and above can drive 2 4K screens externally now.

You can just run “caffeinate” in Terminal. No need for a whole app.

But if it’s plugged in and has a screen attached it won’t go to sleep anyway.

Intel based Mac's with bootcamp was awesome, not so great now with emulation.

The wife's work recently switched them over to mac laptops and she has been impressed. She works in design/marketing and they are decent for that. Battery life is amazing, price was honestly better than the windows equivalent, and it works for her. Has been a bit of a mission after so many years of windows to get used to the new shortcuts, and layout of the OS. Anyways, to each their own. While I was an unhappy windows laptop user I am also hoping to see Linux finally crack a solid gaming supported OS at which point I will switch. Not a fan of Windows 11 but also not personally wanting to go Mac at this point for my laptop.

More like developers and manudacturers need to support linux

It is 2026. Nobody uses Windows 95 anymore. You should upgrade.
Even M$ is trying to fix it… https://www.windowslatest.com/2026/...ut-its-been-slower-than-windows-10-for-years/
When Microsoft announced its renewed focus on Windows quality, one of the most important areas it called out was File Explorer. The company said it is working on a faster and more dependable File Explorer.

“Our first round of improvements will focus on a quicker launch experience, reduced flicker, smoother navigation and more reliable performance for everyday file tasks.”
^^

I held out for as long as I could. The issue is you can easily develop on Mac for other platforms, but not the other way around. Xcode is only on Mac, and all the other hacks have you fighting Apple at every step. It just wasn't worth the effort anymore. Easier to learn MacOS than have to deal with all of that...
