I've come to the conclusion that ...

it's something i can't understand. especially on a forum like this which is not a dedicated linux support forum. you can wait a day before getting an answer while google will provide you with options on the spot.

as an aside, i find people don't actually know that google can often provide the answers they are looking for. even on linux related forums i visit i often see questions where a google search would solve the question then and then.

First you have to know what to look for or at least what question to ask. Linux is so complex and confusing when you start that it takes a while to get into the hang of things. Ask me, first hand experience as I am struggling away!

when a problem occurs, 99% of apps give you an error message. popping that into google along with the distro you use will often lead you in the direction. it's really no different with windows when you post a BSOD error code into google. it really takes little to no effort of your braincells.

i think i can safely say that for the average user, any issue you face has been faced by someone already. what i find is that people are often too lazy to read what appears in front of them and try understand what it means.

Here's the best tip for any Linux newbie.....Google has a dedicated Linux search function!

You can find it here : www.google.com/linux

I've put it on my internet browser's toolbar and use it daily. ;)

Yep but with Windows with so little BSOD's and the ease of click, click! it's just not fair to compare!

you are quite right. it's not fair to compare no linux system crashes as opposed to the little BSODs I got in Windows.

i haven't followed any of your tribulations so can't say anything to your click click. save to say that i find fixing linux issues far easier than windows ones.

I find Windows issues far easier to fix than linux ones. Then we do not even debate installing of drivers and compatibility issues.

How long have you played with Linux again?

Aah, but you're new to Linux in general. Coming from a classic Mac and then Linux background, my mate took a long time to get used to windows. It works both ways.

post links to these issues that you are having rather than us continuing this slow dance. at the end of the day, I am willing to bet your years of Windows experience far outweighs your experience with Linux. or more importantly you seem to have almost next to no Linux experience against a wealth of Windows experience. Of course you will find Windows easier. In my case I have been using Linux for about 6-7 years. Been using Windows since v3.0. I find Linux far easier to troubleshoot.

i may be pre-judging you, but it seems to me you may be wanting linux to act the way windows does. to act in the manner you are used.

Yep, I was anti Linux, tried it a few times before to no avail, every-time a new version come then the heavens are promised just to no avail. Only since late last year it seems that it is becoming more user friendly but still a far cry from the ease of Windows for any beginner.

I installed YDL on PS3, not to great. Now I am trying Karmic and its better, but the bore of trying some things that come so natural and easy with Windows. I currently have about every latest distro on my PC but just cannot find the time to try them all. To much effort. Not just "click" install and "Click" play! Lets not get onto drivers!

why nbot play with livecds? i have yet to get one that didn't work on my old p4 or my current i7? what have your issues been?

i will tell you know that a person who had used only linux would be frustrated at how they have to get drivers for each and every piece of hardware on their computer. when on linux it just works.

when you refute my post (which I guess you will from your prior posts) provide specific examples. again links to threads will be even more helpful.

Why would I refute your post, it's not my style. I only relate my experience with Linux as compared to windows. I respect your experience on Linux, what come natural to you are not so easy for a Linux starter like me. Installing simple programs using "terminal commands" are so unnatural. I am trying setting up Linux to to development/training and it's not as straight forward as with windows.

As for Live cd's? How do you use that for development?

That way you'll only ever be disappointed/frustrated. When, on occasion, I have to deal with Windows, I have to remind myself of this otherwise it's an exercise of tearing hair out.

Don't be afraid of the keyboard ;)
