iWork08 vs Office 2004

How do these two packages match up to each other? I managed to buy a second hand copy of Office 2004 and it is running very well (after the 100+ updates). Just wondering how iWork 08 would match up to Office 2004.

Also... damn pity one can't get iPhoto08 separate from the other iLife packages - I just don't use the others and it seems a waste to have to buy the whole suite when I know I just want iPhoto.. They should allow an upgrade from the previous ver of iPhoto. I would gladly pay for that.
 
I'm loving iWork '08! I eventually decided to keep Office 2004 but I'm not sure why.

iPhoto? I thought you have Aperture? :confused:

Yes I do have a copy of Aperture - bought it from the same guy I got Office from. The new iPhoto looks great though - especially the organising part - but not worth the R580 +- for iLife.
 
I am waiting for Office 2008 before I decide whether to give up on MS Office forever. Between iWork, quicklook and Bean (the little word processor that could) There is very little reason to keep Office in my opinion.
I keep Office 2004 for Entourage and may only install that when I get 2008 and that is only because I use an Exchange server at work. Otherwise I really hate the lack of true Spotlight integration in Entourage.
I wonder if I am the only one who wonders how Apple can release 2 operating systems in the time it takes MS to release one Office suite.

Apart from the thumbnail scrubbing iPhoto got its organisational skills straight out of Aperture.
 
If u use Excel a lot, write macros (VBA), use lots of graphs and complex formulas, then Numbers won`t help u much.
I`ve tried it out, but no where near as good as Excel.

iWork doesn't have a db system like Access either.

I don't use powerpoint and word much, but seems similar to iWork's options.

Neither does Office 2004 :confused:
 
There's one thing that iWork does that Office 2004 didnt and that is open Microsoft's Open XML Formats :eek:

Well on the OS level, its mainly because apple has a set hardware platform which they develop for. It's so much simpler when just need to make it work in a closed enviroment.

I guess office suffers from a similar problem. Its a big ugly beast which is used by billions of people in millions of different settings.

That is not to say that microsoft isn't a badly run company, because it is. Remember the vista development farce. I'm pretty sure though that the next windows will be much better, its simply impossible for them to make so many mistakes again. They must have learnt something.
 
At the end of the day a word processor is a word processor. I have used Iwork '08 for a few specific applications such as making a pretty newsletter to our clients (it has nice templates) and opening Office 2007 documents.
At the end of the day my reason for using Iwork is simple, Office 2004 is not Universal and makes my whole machine act as though it is running through treacle and even when I close it the machine is still a bit clunky.

I would still love a database program for Mac, anyone have a clue?

iWork '08 is exactly the same as a Mac, it just works.
