So then, since Rectron sell "OEM" parts, and are very technically an OEM trader.
Why the hell are they selling the CPU in a box??????

No box = no warranty, that is what I have understood from Intel.

Not true. It comes with the "system builder" warrantee. Same with Windows licenses. The OEM version (<Win7) just comes with the code and disc in a tiny case. Bought 10 from Esquire years ago for a few builds.

Best option would be to visit the physical store and see it for yourself.
I don't trust or label anyone as shady until I've dealt with them personally.

I'll pass, thanks.
Nobody in SA I know of, sells processors like that.
Sounds like fakes from China to me.
These are listed on supplier catalogs. I think it's irresponsible to simply label parts as fake or sellers as scammers because one doesn't know the workings of a business sector. Most suppliers that sell OEM parts also have the retail parts stocked. From my understanding of OEM parts they don't have all the extras and support but warranties still apply. If not buying a complete branded system it's therefor best to buy from a retail with a proven track record.

Was not a member here until I saw this thread. Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes if you ask me. I have bought a load of equipment from Jaco (JA Trading), and I can tell you that the service I got from him has far exceeded what I would get from any retailer. His prices were cheaper and it was the IDENTICAL items. I got all the boxes of all the items supplied and all the serial numbers match up. We moan about high prices and when we finally find someone that supplies the products at prices that we should be paying, we want to brand him a scammer?

I can't believe that someone would need to seek approval of anyone by sending them pictures of their products to verify legitimacy, do you ask the same of any company that has a sale? I recently bought an Xbox 360 bundle for my son from Incredible Connection on a limited stock sale for peanuts, I never asked them to send me serial numbers. And VAT registration mean nothing, any illegal company can get VAT registered, rip people off and disappear tomorrow.

All I am saying is if you want to pay a premium from retailers, go for it, but don't try to assassinate one man's business that is bringing us products at the prices that we should be paying. I have one of the best machines on the market thanks to Jaco, if it were not for him, I would have paid a lot more to set this machine up.

BTW - Jaco attends to all my after hours technical queries if I have them, even taking my calls on a Sunday. Show me a retailer that does that.....

Go read this thread and then you ask yourself why most people looks at any good deal with some pessimism.

Thanks for backing me up, but be a good man and post for those of us who don't have registered accounts on Carbonite please.

Call me whatever you want, the proof of the pudding, is in the eating, as the English saying goes.
As for demanding proof, I am entitled to do so, and after having been scammed enough in my life, its one of those things.
Those that say its irresponsible/wrong/etc already raise my suspicions.

the fact remains, I used to build computers. I only ever once saw a "tray processor" and it was a fake of the Cyrix 6x86, learnt my lesson, moved on, purchased the real thing instead.

I understand the point. People are understandably cautious. That isn't what we're seeing though. When someone with a proven track record comes and offers something good people just label it too good to be true and automatically a scam without doing some research. The fact also remains that the real thing is sold as a "tray processor." Granted it should be labeled as OEM.

When it comes to known retailers people however throw caution out the window. The only place to ever screw me was in fact Incredible Connection. Believe it or not they actually wanted to charge me if the part came back non-defective. The only failure in the end was them not saying that they were selling inherently unstable fong-kong rubbish.

If purchasing an item, I think you are entitled to request proof of the product being original. If you are not buying anything from him, I think you are putting an honest guy under the 'gun' unnecessarily. (That is only my humble opinion). The thread started with someone asking if anyone had heard of them. Well, yes some of us have and our experiences with them is very good. The only guys to try and rip me off was also two big retailers. Our country needs entrepreneurship to survive and to curb the high unemployment rate, I will always support a guy who is only trying to make ends meat to support his family. (Particularly an honest guy that gives such great service)

Its all about being safe and cautious.

Gumtree is not known for being a market place full of honest and above board people tbh.

Hi Guys, I did buy a "MSI Z77A-G43 LGA 1155 Motherboard R 1,350" from JA Trading aka GTR Computers, I will buy a ssd from them soon!

I'll pass, thanks.

He sells legit tray processors. Tray processors are very common, especially with overclockers because they and most PC enthusiasts don't use the included heat sink and fan that comes with the overpriced boxed processors that most people that's not too knowledgeable about PC hardware buy.

Just because your favorite pc retailer dont sell them does not make them fakes from china. Maybe you dont know everyone in SA.
My processor is still running that i bought from Jaco, just like all the other hardware i bought from Jaco.
Go visit him and ull see he is doing very good and he is legit!
Thats all mr Koosi

I am currently looking around for gaming rig. I have contacted a couple places for quotes and most offer an OK-ish response/service. Evetech has a decent online website, but since being in Cape Town, I will buy the rig blind. I used to go to Chaos Computer before they went BIG and the busted, but nowadays I am battling to find decent advice. Landmark PC, DC3 and Computer Mania all offer some form custom build, but they seem rather expensive.

I tend to agree that they will be able to offer equipment for cheaper as he doesn't have a building, staff and other fixed costs to cover. The problem is if he goes out of business, you don't have a warranty or support...

I have contacted GTR Computers/JA Trading/Jaco for a quote on a rig, so I will let you guys know how it goes.

UPDATE: I had no response to my replies to the Gumtree ads, so I don't know what happened. I really would have liked to check his service and prices.
