WHAT IS LIFE LIKE FOR PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN SHACKS?

Millions of people live in shacks, but more than R200 million has been spent on President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla residence.

Jack Bloom, the DA’s Leader in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, visits informal settlements once a month and stays the night in a shack in order to experience and highlight their problems so they get the attention they deserve.

These visits are popularly known as “Jack in a Shack”.

Follow Jack on twitter @JackBloomDA on his seventeenth visit on Tuesday 29 January when he visits Winnie Mandela informal settlement and neighbouring settlements in Tembisa on the east rand.

I spend one weekend every month living in mansions along the Atlantic seaboard. The owners don't know though. I call it "abzo under wrapzo"

This comment almost killed me :)

I can just imagine how this started ... 17 months ago and Jack has been out all night and Mrs Bloom is saying Jack old boy where the hell were you??? And he's been paying for it ever since ...

I hope though that he realises that he's contributing to the overcrowding problem in that person's shack and hopefully is offering them a night in his house!

Haha lol..too funny!

Jack must agitate for the billions stolen by the apartheid government on the eve of democracy to be returned. Much more significant than this.

The lengths people go to get votes these days.

I actually wouldn't mind doing that for a night... see what the otherside of the fence live like... obviously, with safety guaranteed.

Jack wants votes. If he was serious he would move into a shack permanently.

I disagree. Would you believe that a someone that lives in the same circumstances as you is able to change things for the better for you? The aim, if I have to guess, of his shack sleepover is to make the people feel that those who can change something is caring enough to experience things the way they do.

I would like to see ANYONE from ou ruling party do this...

Sexwale already did this, nothing new.
