Montpellier coach Jake White is eager to strengthen his team with more South African players.

It was reported on Tuesday that Montpellier had signed Lions prop Schalk van der Merwe on a two-year deal.

According to Netwerk24, White also has his sights set on luring former Bulls lock Paul Willemse and Sharks utility back Cameron Wright to Montpellier.

Willemse currently plays for French club Grenoble but White is reportedly aiming to get him released from his contract a year early.

Wright, who can play scrumhalf and flyhalf, currently plays for the Sharks XV in the Vodacom Cup.

White, a former Springbok coach, recently signed Bulls flank Jacques du Plessis and Stormers flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis, while he also has his sights set on former SA under-20 captain Wiaan Liebenberg.

South Africans Wynand Olivier, Robert Ebersohn and Pat Cilliers already ply their trade at Montpellier, while Shaun Sowerby is forwards coach.
