Well I took the plunge...hoping it would work on my hardware (intrepid and Hardy) had issues with my ethernet. It works like a bomb! Wow:D I love it. Its so fast and responsive, and it boots in about 20seconds!

Thoughts? Who has tried it?

Will surely when it's final. What's different, except notifications, and what you have already mentioned? My 8.04 as well as 8.10 won't resume with Compiz running. I hope it's fixed... Is it?

Do they release 64 bit editions on disc?

I am not quite sure what you mean? You can download the 64bit iso just like the normal 32bit iso?

Haven't dug too deeply yet, but they have included open office 3, and utility called computer janitor. Other than that pretty much like intrepid. Oh and the new GDM screen is awesome, looks really cool. The boot splash is also different. It also detects exactly what monitor I have - previous versions never did this.

Other than that, not much else is new.

I usually request free discs from the Ubuntu and Kubuntu websites, but it doesn't give me the option to choose 64bit or 32bit like it used to.

Well I doubt they would send out Beta versions on cd? Probably wait until the final comes out. +-23 April:)

Awesome!

My 8.10 machine is my workhorse though so I don't want to risk a beta yet, will wait for the final...

I am testing 32 bit; it seems solid as ever. But I am not impressed with look and feel though--not sure what the hype was all about. No true ubuntu innovations, rather just adaptations from GNOME 2.26. Fedora 11 Beta released today, now that seems like innovative work.

Oh and I forgot to mentiond that I am using the ext4 file system. :)

Gnome on 9.04 Beta is till using 2.25 if I remember correctly. It does not look exactly like the final version coming out with 9.04 final.

I have been running it on my laptop and it is reasonably stable and a lot faster than 8.10, even with a bunch of programs and services installed.

Well I'm testing the 9.04 Beta 64 bit version and would say it more solid on my new hardware then it was with 8.10(The Linux Kernel got updated). And as far as look and feels goos it got packed with 2 or 3 extra themes that works with all the applications I tested it with, so far.

I personally thought the new notification system was also a bit hyped but after using the system for a while it gives a clean and sexy way to notify a user of changes on the system.

But I quickly looked at the feature list for Fedora 11 and didn't see anything Ubuntu 9.04 doesn't offer for a desktop user.

Regards,

I've been running 9.04 since the later alpha releases. To get the ext4 and faster bootups you need to install a fresh copy, so I think I may give this a shot over the weekend. :)

put the xubuntu version onto my i7. Getting a working resolution filled me with great joy.

Whoohoo! Been downloading the updates lately, and its starting to look really really solid now. I am loving it :)

Tried kubuntu RC but can't figure out why I can't create a DSL/pppoe connection with the network widget.

I have no idea whether you can do that.... I've heard you can but haven't tried it. I'm a terminal geek so it's not an issue for me to "pon intl" and "pon local' every couple of days....
