Hi all.
I need to go for jaw realignment surgery in the next few months and I was wondering the following
1) How much does it cost if I don't use medical aid (ranges will be great).
2) Does medical aid pay for the procedure (provided the orthodontist provides valid reasoning as to why it is necessary) and if so, what plans on discovery and/or momentum medical aid cover this?
3) How long is the procedure and recovery time?

Thank you to everyone that provides any insights below.

I feel like this is something you discuss with your doctor and medical aid, otherwise I see another "the medical aid screwed me" thread on its way.

Sounds like a possible pre existing condition you might void any possible claim if you change medical aids.

While you waiting for someone.....

Dear <insert medical institution name or person>,

I am considering to go for jaw realignment surgery and would like to know what the estimate costs will be for the total procedure as a private patient paying cash, as well the consultation fees and checkups after the procedure.

And if I choose to use medical aid, I am currently on the following medical aid plan, <insert plan>. Do you know if they will cover the procedure or do I need to personally contact my medical aid to confirm this ?

Please can you also give me an idea of what the usual recovery time is after the procedure.

Kind Regards

Your medical aid will advise on whether you're covered for the procedure. Your medical team can give you a quote or estimate of the expected damage.
