Having globally unique address has many benefits for the WUGs. It will allow them to use IP addresses on their networks without having to worry about clashes with other networks on the same addresses. This also opens the door to possible interconnections with other networks on the global Internet such as educational and academic networks and even local ISPs.
I am not quite sure what you are trying to imply? The Wugs are a great idea but they are not the panacea. Who is going to be paying for these trips overseas? How much of an impact has Jawug really been when they have fewer than 1000 actually active users in an environment with more than two/three million strong?
I just find it interesting... when all the news about this group is always positive, it makes the whole sleuth of stories being released rather less credible.
Without meaning to add insult to injury, I think what daffy just said logically nullified jonjon's concern. The point is, if you're hearing praise about a bloody NPO community (for heaven's sake - its ordinary people like you and me that make up a WUG) like ours making any kind of advancements or contributions to the IP network, the last thing you should be doing is showing signs of scepticism, because it's the closest platform you're going to get to pure hobbiesm, where everyone's doing it for the love of what they're doing - as a WUG we're trying to create an alternative option for people to communicate without having to go through the commercial side of it, as well as satisfying our passion for wireless, networking & technology. We mean no harm, and I certainly haven't thrown over R5000 of my money down the drain for JAWUG. Join the WUG and see for yourself what all the hype is about - there's a whole community on IRC that's there to help and shareI think JAWUG is the perfect platform for this kind of work, since there are no commercial interest in the results.
