Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I am having some issues when trying to backup my Windows 7 X64 desktop.

I am running Microsoft Security Essentials and so far it has protected me brilliantly.

When I try to backup my system it gets about half way through and then MSE comes up with an infected file (Jeefo.a) I instruct MSE to clean it but after that the backups fail (although MSE reported a successfull clean. Then the backup gives the following error: 0x81000037 (when you google it, it mentions that there is a possible infection)

If I clean the file and rerun the backup it comes up with the same jeefo file and same error which tells me it is either reinfecting from somewhere (worm, maybe?) or the infection wasn't cleaned to begin with...

there are a couple of Jeefo cleaners out there, but I have tried them and it seems nothing is working.

Can someone please help?

From the sounds of it, the infected file is backed up somewhere in Windows restore, meaning that Windows is cleaning the file successfully, but then Windows restore is replacing it for some or other reason with the infected version of it. Meaning that the infection is detected again and requires cleaning again... and the cycle repeats. The backup that you're running seems to be accessing the file, which invokes the virus scanner, and prevents further access to the file until clean (or something a such). Which probably interupts the backup program, and causes it to fail. I could be wrong, but that sounds like its probably the reason you getting the error and backup failure...

Anyway, if this is the problem, simply disable Windows Restore to delete the restore backups, reboot, and if yo really want to and need it, enable windows restore again. Then do a full system scan to ensure the virulent thing is gone, and then try the backup again...

Correct way to do is to disable system restore, boot up in safe mode, do a full scan, reboot, re-enable system restore and you should be all set.
