How good or bad is the jeep compass - Top Gear give it a 5/20...is it that bad have read some reviews where it polled quite high...its probably not as good as the honda cr-v (top gear rated 11/20) but surely it can't be that bad...anyone out there to defend its honour::erm:
Pfui. Namby-pamby 4x4 wussies. If you really want to get-out of stuff and not drive through every muddy puddle you see because it gives you an excuse to engage 4x4, a bakkie is good enough. This should get the careful driver out of most difficulty. What you need is good ground clearance, a winch on the front and differential locks rather than 4-wheel drive. A spade to bury a flat anchor (a large square of wood) with a method of hitching the winch to it will get you out even if you are stuck hub-deep in the Sahara desert. Avoid the puddles as much as possible. Ninety % of 4x4 difficulties are because the driver wanted an excuse to engage 4x4 (on his new SUV) as it was a change from ferrying the kids to school. And it enhanced his macho image to have mud splatters on the vehicle.
