So I am looking at buying a Jeep Wrangler, 2003 model, with 70 000km on it.
Does anyone here have one, and can you give some me some advice?

Thx

I think Koeks drives one. Personally I think the 2007 and onwards model is very cool, but older ones are a bit too agricultural.

Great cars, don't expect good handling though as there is some body roll around the twistys( more than most SUV's ), but then again it is meant for off-road situations. If you are not planning on using it for 4x4'ing, it might be better to look at something else. Fuel consumption on the petrol model is fairly high.

Do you like sh*t cars?

The company has a 4-door with the V6.

It is the most unergonomical, uncomfortable and fuel-heavy vehicle I've driven in a long, long time.

It is positively dangerous in anything other than a straight line.

It looks and feels 'cheap'.

It suffered a severe overheating problem early in its life.

The accelerator pedal is useless unless you are a very frequent gym visitor.

End of story.

Rather ask here.

Some people will like it, others not - like any other car.
I would love an Audi Q5, but some people say its crap.
I drive a Suzuki SX4, some reviews say its crap, I like it.

In the end its up to you to like it or not.

Too true. It's all about what you want from a car. All cars cost money to keep on the road, granted some more than others, but if you "love" a car, the costs involved don't really count and the discomforts are often overlooked or justified, simply because you "love" it. Take it for a test drive, make sure you can afford it, and if you like it, buy it ;)

Drove one for a while. I think you only got the 4.0L 6 back then and man is it thirsty! Lots of nice power through. The handling is quite scary if you not used to it. When you break really hard the suspension dives so much you look at the payment in front - ha ha

Alot of fun though and really wicked off road!

Can't wait till Muiltair tech makes it into a Wrangler. Viva the Fiat/Chrysler partnership, viva!

Thanks for the link. Sounds very interesting, more power and less fuel consumption, the stuff motoring dreams are made of :D

I hope other makes follow suit, or even better on the tech.

Thank for all the info. I test drove the Wrangler I was curious about, and....
it sucked! Horrible thing to drive.

Spot on BCO. i drive one. and i love it. :D Plazma i know you said they sucked, but for those who might consider a JEEP Wrangler.

The 2003 models are the ones that had the 4L i6 engine, they were stopped in 2006 and early 2007 when the new ones came out, there are two versions the sahara which has AC and a nice sound system and a dual top, and the sport which has just the soft top and decent sound system and no AC,

so consumptions wise you are looking at 14-16L/100km in town, on open road you can get 12 if you drive generously. I get 450 from a 70L tank, it never takes 70 though about 55-62. hehehe.
I got my last year on 72000km and no problems so far. my is an auto. They are really not that expensive to service. I do my own services. There is not much space though. Off-road they sent a bench mark...

That Sahara one is really nice looking.
It's very close to what we drove in the SADF.

JEEP WRANGLER DOUBLE-CAB ON THE WAY

Recent spy pictures captured by Chris Doane Automotive have uncovered what looks like a double-cab bakkie rendition of the Jeep Wrangler. According to information sourced by Automotive News this Wrangler pick-up could be based on the Dodge Ram and hit the road by 2019.

This new bakkie will accompany the next generation Wrangler which was said to go into production this November, but the Toledo North Assembly Plant still needs to be prepared for the unibody to body-on-frame construction. This could take up to a year; thus explaining the delay.

Jeep may be forced to pin this Wrangler pick-up on the Ram 1500 frame due to the length of its design. We know that the next generation frame will be longer but whether it is long enough for the pick-up is not yet clear.

A pick-up on the current frame would not be possible because the proposed double-cab design is too long. At this point, the frame on which it will be based cannot be confirmed but can be narrowed down to the current Ram or next-gen Wrangler.

Based on the spy images seen above, however its safe to assume that the Ram is being used as a mule for this development as the proportions seem pretty close.

Jeep head Mike Manley and FCA boss Sergio Marchionne will be considering a historical name for the pick-up. That means it could be called the Gladiator or even the Jeepster, although the former seems more likely.
