Jeffreys Bay Advice

Am travelling for 4 days to J-bay in a week or two. Will be landing in PE and hiring a car from there. Need some advice

1. Have my 4 year old son who loves the beach. The problem is he has a habit of running into the water at random times between sand castle builds. So Beach time is very stressful for me and the wife. Is there a waveless/protected beach (similar to boulders beach in Simonstown) somewhere in the area where I can actually chill out

2. I love my fish, but also love my meat. The idea of going seafood only is a bit concerning. Any halaal places there?

3. Am arriving in PE early on Eid morning, will disembark around 6:30am. What's the latest Eid prayer time in PE/J-bay that I can rush to?

4. Any tips/ things to do in the area would be appreciated. Also which restaurant does the best fish.

Yup, but he might be a bit clueless about Eid prayers in PE? And the halaal stuff?
 
Sorry I can't advise on JB stuff. Some years since I was last there.

Your concern for your son is touching.

Tip from an experienced dad: Now's the time to let your son run into the water on his own, without you immediately running after and protecting him, or shouting instructions. Four is a frenetic age and the tyke needs to develop his experience of the world. Let him feel the power of the water, the incomng and outgoing wash. Let him play and test and engage the water on his own. If/when he falls, let him recover on his own without being immediately saved by dad or mom. Of course watch closely, but don't show alarm or panic. Be ready to step in immediately if he's genuinely out of his depth and needs help. But giving him freedom without your obvious alarm and stress shows him you have confidence in him, and getting to negotiate the beach and water on his own teaches great lessons and builds confidence in the lad.

Relax! And may you and family have a glorious holiday.

Thanks Arthur. Have been in SA 7 years now and have never been in that particular corner. Booked on a whim just to get out of Joburg and looking forward to it.

As per your advice, it's easier said than done from previous experience.....which is why am looking for a quieter spot to start him off on

agree!

got a 9 month old, and i keep saying to myself "let him learn through experience" and yet i am finding myself stopping him from hurting himself.

kids have no fear!
 
Lucky for you the water is so cold he will be running away just as soon as his toes touches it.
It's not summer there yet so the water activities will be at a minimal.
 
Closest to waveless beach I can think of is the point at Marina Martinique. Its 5 minutes drive from town centre. At at low tide its sort of protected. And there is two seafood restaurants at the same spot: Tappas and Walskipper.

He'll only run into the water once. J-bay has by far the coldest water I have ever been in :D

It's holiday town with about 80% of the people there retired folks. If out of season it's going to be pretty dead there. Lots of take-away places though so you're sure to get Halal food there somewhere.

Long weekend bro. So will be Vallies on the beach. Getting a flight booking was a shlep.

He's going for the beach, wife is going for the relaxation, and am going for the view of course :)
 
What ever you do, dont use the bathroom at Jolly Dolphin.

Rated most disgusting bathroom on planet earth.

You'll enjoy it it's very beautiful there. Again, the water is damn cold man. You get needles and pins if you in the water for longer than 5 minutes. (No jokes) Maybe get the little one a wet suit if he really wants to play in the water. You will have a blast there. Lovely towns around too if you want to take a drive.
 
Cool. Me and my partner are also going to Jeffreys Bay on Thursday next week for about 10 nights.
