JHB wireless ring goes live

Hi

@zerofocus, R1999 is in line with the industry standard installation fees. The client owns the equipment and this includes cabling work on-site.

@telkomsuig, this is not 2.4Ghz (roaming) Wifi. It's 5.8Ghz outdoor fixed wireless.

He (cough) can't even laugh

OK...so what's the benefit here???
Excuse my ignorance but isn't the industry full of these "Chance Takers"...
R1999 is  for a mere wireless link setup...oh well

ok so how can anyone bennifit out of this

A decent mikrotik setup for fixed outdoor link will set you back about 1.5k.

Thanks Kloon, the voice of reason shows up at last :D

It's a professional on-site installation, cabling work and equipment. There are no hidden financing fees and long contracts.

@boswald, nope, Amobia use their own custom developed (linux) software on the CPE equipment

@Tns, it's like an ADSL line without the copper, same value there. It's an option for people that can't get ADSL or can't get ADSL quick enough and it's a viable alternative to using Telkom.

The sweet spot for Amobia wireless broadband is really in areas that do not have good ADSL infrastructure (like, the majority of the country). Amobia has a franchising model to reach these areas.

Keep in mind that Amobia's focus in metro areas is on business services, think Diginet replacement.

@ben dover, sadly the WISP industry has many stories of "cowboys". WAPA is the solution and is doing good work to improve the reputation of outdoor fixed wireless providers that have a solid business model. (www.wapa.org.za)

@swim I get that you are negative about this, I'm just not sure why.. speak up son.

That's not actually very expensive for including installation..

I just bought a Mikrotik routerboard 133c with a 15Dbi antenna, it cost me R1482.00
I then still needed some mounting brackets and a mast to install it, this cost me a further R520.00 .. that's just over R2000 .. and then I still had to install it myself, furthermore I did not need to purchase any ethernet cabling as I already had some.. ;)
