JIMS - worth going to?

Here are just some of the hundreds of pics I took. The Renault stand really had me going. Loved the cars on display!!

The new Clio 4 RS

Mercedes Benz had A LOT of nice cars, but the one that interested me the most (probably because it is the only one I can afford) was the A45 AMG Edition 1

Hyundai had an awesome matt wrapped Santa Fe there, but they also showed the Veloster Turbo

That Clio is apparently pretty crap with its semi automatic box. Saw the fifth gear review of it last week.

And the promo girls? ;)

That C63 with matte silver paint ... hmmm!

Those Renaults all look crap. The Hyundai Veloster Turbo looks better...

Thanks - the SLS is another I kept drooling over :P

R3.7 million if I remember

I fly up tomorrow and am heading straight to Nasrec for the day. Can't wait!!

The Jaguar XJR was quite a disappointment for me. What were they thinking when they did that rear end! Rest of the car is Awesum.

Just returned. Show wasn't nearly as impressive as 2 years ago; very little true exotica to be seen, and a few marques had either such small stands that we missed them, or weren't represented at all - most notably Suzuki and Jeep... The NSX is gorgeous in the metal, and it was nice to see a good number of manufacturers bringing concepts and design studies I wouldn't have expected to see.

Now, I know I'm hugely biased, but to me the star of the show was this:

It's one of the first series production cars that looks like something I imagined as a kid cars are going to look like in the 'future'. And the tactile quality of the interior... Even the 'buttons' on the centre console are capacitive:

Honestly found it hugely impressive. It deserves to sell exponentially more than it invariably will locally. And yes, I fully realise it's a bit... odd... to have an MPV eliciting a semi, but I will have one.

*edit*

And when I say 'one' I mean the car... mostly.

So I really enjoyed the show and it was worth flying up for IMO considering I have never attended something like that before. I was very impressed with the Peugeot 2008 (have ordered one for my wife) and I like the 3008 facelift which I will trade my current 3008 "egg crate face" in on.....

The Citroen C4 Picasso was WOW - there is an incredible amount of tech in there including the full digital speedo and a 220v power outlet for electrical devices.

The GWM H6 looks like it could be the best Chinese vehicle to be sold here (when it launches) but I was disappointed by it still sporting a hard dashboard and lots of other hard plastic.

The BMW stand was insane - double story with frameless glass everywhere - I know it all gets packed up and shipped to the next show but the outlay must be massive!

The VW stand was silly - they had so many cars packed into their area that it was impossible to walk through without sliding along cars in order not to hit into other people.

Overall a great experience! I may just go back in 2015 :)

Nah, dude. I know it's 'cool' 'n all to diss the Frenchies, but beyond the styling not necessarily being everyone's cup of tea it is a truly special real-world vehicle.

Not a fan of the styling, but it looks like it has some very cool features inside...

Perfectly fine, obviously; that's wholly subjective. I will say two things though: firstly, some cars tend to look better in the metal than they do in photographs and secondly, Citroens kinda have to look a bit odd-ball. It's part of their appeal. Their current range walks the line of being different without being tacky very well to my eye.

I see they've been awarded the tender to supply some government departments with transport solutions (what is it with SA tenders and French companies? :D ) and they're attempting to enter the local taxi industry. I hope it works, because their cars deserve to sell more than they do and that injection of cash might just be the catalyst for some better marketing and dealer support.
