Hi everyone :)

I'm quite new to the job market, as such. When I started working, I took the first offer that came my way, and have been there ever since.

However I'm now at a point where I don't think that my career is progressing as fast as it should.

My questions are:

1) Is it unethical to apply for new jobs without letting my current employer know?
2) Is it unethical to apply for multiple jobs and go for multiple interviews? Is the application sort of a statement that I will accept the job if offered?
3) If I get multiple job offers simultaneously, and can obviously choose only one, would that burn bridges with the companies that I turn down?

I'm not sure if this is industry-dependent, but I work in the ICT industry; mainly real-time systems development.

1) No
2) No ... this is how you find what works for you ... go to as many interviews as you can. Applying for a position definitely doesn't mean you'll accept an offer if one is made
3) No it won't ... if you tell them exactly why you are going for the other position, it might give them something to work on on their side

Remember being employed is a two-way street. Employer is paying for the time, expertise and skills of the employee.
So ... go for as many interviews as you find necessary and choose the offer (if there are multiple) that best suits what you are looking for
My advice would be to put some serious thought into what you expect from an employer and then ask all the relevant questions when you get to the interview. Do some research on the company before-hand.
Something I've learned along the way - if you don't ask , you won't get ... be that with your current employer or when you're negotiating with a prospective new employer.
