Joburg Infrastructure Crisis

Blame it on the previous regime.
They were supposed to built everything to last as long as the pyramids........
Reality is all the money gets “misplaced”

It's not just Joburg... unfortunately Ekurhuleni is still in the grip of the evil ANC and suffering for it.
Our infrastructure is also collapsing.
No parts to fix it, no people to fix it.

Does the shortfall in roads include the traffic lights of Beyers Naude over the N1 bridge? They're out at least once a week. Their best, iirc, was 22 consecutive days being lights out.

Except he's not blaming it on apartheid. Why are people getting touchy? It's a fact that it was meant to serve a smaller white population during apartheid.

But things changed and inner city population grew exponentially. Those in charge failed to mitigate. An area as large (and key to the economy of the city) as the inner city fed from one point?
 
Whilst the mayor is quick to point out all the flaws; I do hope they are able to actually fix them. Anyone been to the CBD recently? any different from last year, August?

I know it's the truth. I'd wager that 99.999999999999999999999% of South Africans are aware of this as well. Still doesn't change the fact that it has become a staple of political speeches and it is cheap AF.

Nah bruh. That horse has been kicked enough. We know. It is time to start addressing the here and now. 23-years and you can't build a new sub-station? C'mon now.

Hard to make a difference when everytime you want to evict squatters and hijackers out of a derelict building (to remodel it and make it liveable) the bleeding hearts be-k@k themselves and scream bloody murder.
 
If the ANC put just half as much effort into running the country as they do into stealing, then SA would have been a world class country. Instead the wheels are falling off as the gravy train accelerates toward Zimbabwe 2.0.
 
This is the problem with taking people who know nothing about the actual running of the government and letting them take power. It's easy to see things at the top level.

As soon as the ANC came into power months later the first few things disappeared. Remember those guys that used to cut the grass on the curbs and middle islands? They disappeared straight away. And it just went to hell slowly but surely from there. It's all these tiny things that make the whole system run smoothly and well and the ANC didn't know or didn't care about these things and so everything has disappeared. No maintenance, no foresight for upgrades etc and hence why everything is falling apart.

I'm sure as soon as the ANC got their hands into the departments they must have seen all the budgets, couldn't fathom what they were for and so just took all the money for themselves. Now we see all infrastructure falling apart because the money for the forward thinking, scaling, maintenance etc has been stolen and it's all falling to ****.

Expects DA to fix everything in 14-months? C'mon now. Go moan at Parks Tau and his wastage of money on bicycle paths and whatnot...

That is difficult to say. I do see a lot of work being done but this is going to take time. 23 years of neglect cannot be fixed in a year. Best case scenario it takes as long to fix as it took to break. Unfortunately building is not as quick as breaking...

This I understand - but what about the basics, like keeping the place clean? The last time I visited the CBD it looked like a bomb had hit it. Litter, literally, everywhere you went.
