Do these results not look promising?

There was a similar situation in Cape Town prior to 2006 when the DA-led coalition wrested control of Cape Town from the ANC with a share of 41.85% of the votes. In the next national election the province was won and by 2011 the DA had an outright majority in Cape Town (60.92%).

Now the DA has an outright majority in the Western Cape.

I say the DA can win Johannesburg in the next local elections and finally make some inroads into Gauteng.

I think the CoJ might be very real possibility in the next local elections..

Tshwane and Ekuhurleni are also possibilities.

I don't seem them winning GP shortly after that, but I do see it making massive inroads and getting the ANC below 50% the next national elections.

The DA needs to start working now for the local elections. Support for the ANC is decreasing and they need to capitalise on it before the EFF makes bigger inroads in the province.

Agreed. I think the next local elections the DA can take a few wards away from the ANC in GP. Maybe even a city like CoJ?

The 3 big Guateng metros by provincial vote:

Tshwane Metro:

ANC: 49.54%
DA: 33.48%
EFF: 11.57%

Johannesburg:

ANC: 52.22%
DA: 32.51%
EFF: 9.99%

Ekurhuleni:

ANC: 55.08%
DA: 29.08%
EFF: 10.57%

Next local government elections will be quite interesting.

NELSON MANDELA BAY (PE)

ANC - 49.17%
DA - 40.16%
EFF - 4.30%

Weren't the municipal elections closer though in 2011? I suppose one can't directly compare as voter turnout is generally lower in municipal elections, which tends to favour the opposition.

No, DA and EFF gained. ANC and COPE lost ground.

What was the seat make up of the swamp's council?
I know the DA where quite pissed at how badly COPE did in the 2011 municipal elections in NMMM

Nelson Mandela Bay Local Election results 2011:

ANC - 51.91%
DA - 40.13%
COPE - 4.95 %

Nelson Mandela Bay by provincial vote 2014:

ANC - 48.81%%
DA - 40.80%
EFF - 4.14%

Well we have another chance in 2 years. Get the Metros and impress the province!

That is ultimately the da's plan if you ask me... They know they won't be able to swing the national and provincial votes until they have more local governments...

I expect them to get 2 metros in 2016... Maybe come very close to a few more.

I hope Tshwane/Joburg can be one of those. That would be super.

It is a very wise strategy. Urban metros are more dense than rural areas. Gauteng alone has a disproportionate effect on the overall voting outcome.
