Joke values on my car

Something to consider... You mentioned that it has no service history book and only a single entry on Kia's database. If I were on the lookout for your particular car, how would I know that you hadn't tampered with the mileage? Or if the car had never been in a major accident (was previously written off)? Those are concerns I'd have while reading your ad.
The price SMD offered sounds about right. Go ahead and look at the cost of the cars they sell. They don't attract big spenders. Get an AA certificate or something, and sell it privately. Those offers are an insult. I see Tazzes and Chico Golfs with >2x that mileage going for R50k and I'm talking models with no aircon or power steering.

Service book is a joke. There needs to be a more comprehensive way to prove that the car was well kept.

yes I agree on no service book, but fixed everything else up,
almost done full restoration on it,

ive seen picantos older than mine go for more with much much more KM's even without a service book,

Then why not keep it? Rather the devil you know...

I think private sale is your only real bet. Car dealerships will always offer low prices, and will often try and chance their luck but giving you the lowest possible price that they think they could get away with.

Unfortunately, and as said above, you have no service book, so you'll lose a chunk from that, and Kia's aren't particularly great when it comes to resale value (well, the older ones specifically)

Does the ecu on a tazz/chico from the agents also cost R10k?

With a modicum of common sense you will realise that is the reason chicos and tazzes retain their value so well.

Go on autotrader right now, there are 2010 Picanto's listed for R59k from reputable dealers.

You're a private seller, no credibility. You're only going to sell it for less than R50k if you're lucky. Gonna have to make your peace with that.

I know service book is a big deal, never got one for it, as it was auction,
and on kia system only 1 entry there for my car for an inspection at 89K no other service records, even when it was with europcar
so dont know what to say anymore,

Was the car a rental at some stage? Where does Europcar come in?

You'll be lucky to get over R40,000 for that car selling privately unfortunately. The dealer offers sound spot on considering their costs and profit margin (and on this they won't be making much). They'll fix what needs to be fixed, put it on the floor for R60,000 and lower it every few weeks until someone who is interested comes to look. The interested party will neg the dealership down to between R40,000 and R45,000 and walk away smiling at their "bargain". Dealership will be happy with R10,000 profit (or less, depending on how long it sits around) and you get out of the car.

Cut out the middle man and sell it privately.

Also base models with no aircon and power steering? And have you actually seen them sold at those prices?

Anyone can make up a price...actually selling it is something different.

Something to learn for future reference...never buy a base model...you'll struggle to sell it later.

question for you guys, would going and getting a AA check or dekra certificate help me sell the car quicker?

I mean yes on everything you guys listed, but still its been fixed up works well, small issues but all dealt with;

id say the car could easily go to 200K if it was even possible, I mean base model with no aircon or P/S
so it should last longer on cars like this;

one other thing, one guy I spoke to says cambelt on a car like this needs changing at 90K, mine is at 104K should I change it?
dont even know if that needs to be done?

how would I know? is there a tell tale sign I should look for?

There are no signs, but if your cam belt goes, it can do massive damage to your engine. I wouldn't run the risk of driving with an overdue cam belt.
I'm not sure how much replacing it will add to the value. People usually assume this has been done, but I know a guy that replaces the cam belt by default when he buys a 2nd hand car with no service history so it probably will affect the price, but not by much.

You didn't answer my question earlier about the association with Europcar. Was the car previously a rental?

If it's that good, then keep it and get some value for the money you've spent on it. If you don't trust it, why would you expect to get a good price for it?

Tazz's and Chico's don't have fuel injection. Well at least not the older ones.

Probably the number one reason why your lack of service book is counting against you is because nobody knows if the cambelt has been done.

Since it's already overdue by 14000km...and yes it should very definitely be exactly on that recommendation...I'm not even slightly surprised nobody wants to give you higher values.

The next owners knows that's a big service that will cost money and will therefore look for a car that is just over that mileage and has confirmation that the job was done so that the cost doesn't surprise their pocket.

Meaning any dealership taking the car from you would need to do that service to be able to sell the car.

Take the money they offered and be done with it.

Dekra cert might help perception for some buyers, but I've seen first hand how worthless they are so wouldn't spend the money getting one done.

If your cambelt hasn't been done yet, make sure you do it. If that thing goes your car turns into (more of) a money pit.

I foresee another thread in your future.

AFAIK these have interference engines.
Proper car care and maintenance is often easiest done by reading the service book.
If you don't have one, ask if KIA can send you the scans.
If that doesn't work try download one.
If that doesn't work ask any mechanic for advice.

If you do not follow maintenance procedures chances are, especially on a Picanto, things are going to go wrong.

Contact Europcar to see if they have more info. I got a whole printout for a car that used to be a rental with Tempest.

From what I know about the car - having read all of your threads, and your pm's - you are not going to get more than what the dealer offered you, if you want to go that route.

A few things :

Base model - this is SA, they don't sell, as even the lowliest of buyers insist on Bells and Whistles.

No service book: Incredibly important to a buyer - particularly the dreaded cam belt question. If you have no proof of it having been changed, you can bet that it hasn't been done, and is about to snap - the Dealer will have to factor that in.

Condition: we all know that you have had to replace a hell of a lot on the car, plus you were talking about bumper and scratches - that too must be factored in, and if you have had those fixed in the past 2 weeks, then the dealer is going to notice the new paintwork and immediately say "accident damage" - by the way, I don't think you've personally done an HPI check on the car, so you actually don't know if it's been in an accident or not.

Book value: You must realise that book value is a very rough guide as to what the car might sell for, but 99% of the dealers will look at book and start subtracting for everything from mileage to service record to whether you have a minute chip on your windscreen, and then when they reach the lack of service book, a whole big whack comes off as well.

This car has been a disaster for you from Day One, so if I was in your shoes, I would take the cheque from the Dealer and run like hell towards the nearest bank.

Just one more thing - if you do sell it privately, you do realise that you will have someone who is quite likely going to become the biggest pain in the arse in your life, as they discover yet more problems.
