Jolicloud pips Chrome OS

How can it pip Chrome OS if Google hasn't already officially released Chrome OS? Bad title like so many articles

Anyone can release something early. But with questionable quality, it'll quickly die.

Google will make sure they get it pretty much right before release, this'll set no alarm bells for them at all I'm sure.

I didn't write the headline, but I think that's the point: Jolicloud has released and Chrome OS hasn't. Did you even read the article before criticising the headline?

Last night my line wouldn't sync - phoned Telkom - my adsl account has been 'closed'. I didn't request anything of the sort & they can't tell why its been closed 'cos they were offline at the time.

Reasons like this ^ is why I don't see the cloud working in a 3rd world country. Sorry.

Agree with Jan, some people never grow up, I wish people will use the forum to add something constuctive, ...............those that want a place to rant, go twitter some followers.

True, but if you do have the dosh I'm sure you can get a 3g failover router with a 3g modem (prepaid sim card) and use that.

In any case doesn't matter where you are in the world, if you do go this route, a failover line is an essential in a work environment.

Yes I did that is why I criticized the headline. Not to mention I would have thought an Administrator would handle a user a bit more tactically.

JoliCloud is great for NetBooks. I put it on my fiance's netbook. She finds the interface a little confusing, and I can understand why. They introduce many new metaphores, some of which are not obvious.

One thing that it does REALLY well is to maximise screen usage. +1 points for that. The downside of a browser based OS is that when something breaks it is impossible for a normal user to get out of an error screen. 'ALT + LEFT' can get you back to where you need to be IF you know about the shortcut.

I am quite interested to know what Google is going to produce. JoliCloud did, however, beat them to the punch.

Baby steps my man. I would deploy something like this in a corporate environment so we can start moving away from only using Ms products. So you deploy a bunch of these with a link to an internal sharepoint like site for document storage. use Google Docs or if users want Office online.

In the office at present when the internet lines go user pretty much stop working anyway.

Jolicloud

I tried using it. Installed it and then tried logging onto my home network using my wireless-n router. A couple of things I noticed is that it takes a while to install. Booting up is also somewhat slower than MS Windows 7 and once it was installed, it couldn't find my wireless network. I thought I might have forgotten to turn on my wireless adapter, but even pressing the button to switch on the adapter had no effect on my ability to use the operating system.

Final score:

Windows 7:1 - 0: Jolicloud.
