Well it would be a trivial matter to see what the problem is by reading the Apache logs so I guess you'll just have to wait for them to do that. It most definitely is a permission or disabled function problem and these are very difficult to diagnose without actually having access to the system

One other thing that might help. In the root of your joomla folder is the configuration.php file.

Add/change this line

var $debug = '1'; //should be 0 by default.

This will hopefully give some debugging info, assuming that PHP is set up correctly on the server.
