JRA workers down tools over shoddy equipment

.Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) employees from the Dobsonville Depot (Region D) literally downed tools over “poor quality’ working equipment on Wednesday afternoon.

Workers ranging from cleaners, technicians, drillers and truck drivers blocked streets in the CBD around the JRA head office, throwing their old tools in a pile on the ground.

“It is unacceptable that we are using old equipment to clean. Our call is simple; provide us with new materials and we will do the job,” he said.

After spending hours waiting for management to address them, a group of disgruntled workers wearing orange overalls threw the tools in the reception of the head office.

SA really is on a downward spiral... what next? A new E-Class Mercedes each to get to work.

I'll take a couple of those brooms and wheelbarrows, they're in better condition than the ones I use.

No place for mediocrity and make do with what you have in the workplace, provide the workers with proper tools. I can certainly use those broken tools at home, not at work, why should I?

Exactly! Like I said - provide them with an E-Class + driver too... so they're ready and willing by the time they get in.

Also make sure they have a new broom and wheelbarrow everyday... who wants to work with used tools?

Shoddy tools not allowed at work. You may recall that lady who came here fuming about her helper breaking something while cleaning her house. Poor lady didn't even have proper tools

A wheelbarrow with wobbly wheel isn't allowed at work for example. No problem at home as there's no one doing audits every now and then (as long as the job is performed by someone else)

I tend to agree with their grievance. If their tools are shoddy - it needs to be addressed.

To a degree I agree with their grievance..

But it would also be interesting to know exactly how old those tools are... There is a tendency to abuse tools when they aren't your own..

Some of those brooms and such look like they might only be a few months old and they're broken because they weren't looked after...
 
They blocked off streets in Jo'burg yesterday, **** them may they all develop instant syphilis..

Of course, but just those workers asking for proper tools means SA is on a downward spiral according to some. I get vibes of being a good boy and not bothering the employer tendencies.
 
Wait for the burning tyres.....
Great way to destroy a road and create potholes.
Oh wait ...JRA... that means more work. So for once no burning of tyres.
