Johannesburg - Trade on the JSE equity market was halted at 10:30 on Monday morning, with the bourse saying it was investigating reasons for the stop in trade.

"We will provide an update as soon as possible," an e-mail sent to clients on Monday at 10:20 read.

According to Reuters, the London Stock Exchange said it was investigating "connectivity issues" raised by traders on Monday morning after they complained that prices were not updating.

A spokesperson for the JSE said it was unclear whether the problems were related or not.

The JSE's all-share index was last trading at 26 292 points, up 3.5% on Friday's close.

tinfoil hat mode:
the biggest bailout in financial history EVER happened over the weekend.
fannie mae and freddy mac got taken over by the US government (around $4000billion worth of housing market is controlled by these two) and like magic, the first day of trading thereafter the UK stock exchange is unavailable, and so is the S.A. one.
