Juice fasting

I haven't done it yet either but I can't see what would be bad about it. But hey, it's a free world. So if anyone thinks living healthy is unhealthy... Why not? Some eat chips with chips and lots of sauce or even kfc. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a crazy health nut, but certain things are undoubtedly healthy.

Got nothing to do with that IMO. Purely for colon cleansing and/or weight loss. Besides, why shouldn't people at least try to support their precious organs? Some treat them bad some treat them good...

Look dude no offense but colon cleansing is based on bad science. If you want to flush your bowels be my guest. I don't see how a high sucrose low fibre diet is going to contribute much to overall health. Is there any science or evidence behind this behaviour?

Look dude, as I said, I haven't done it either and white frankly don't give a crap right now. The reason why I haven't done it before is because I have never felt the need for it as I basically live a healthy life already. I doubt there will ever be a need since my stomach is happy. And with the updated knowledge i have now i can state that I will never do it in the future either because it is unhealthy, happy now?

Just make sure its vegetables, not fruit. Fruit have so high energy content you might as well be eating chocolates. e.g. Compare the energy content of 100ml coke vs 100ml fruit juice. Fruit choice has quite a bit more kilojoules (~30%).

How much juice can you drink a day when doing such a diet?

I had three 700ml portions a day (sometimes four) and water.

I would not use canned/bottled products, must be fresh and when I say fresh I mean you make it and drink it immediately, no storage for later.

Nah, fruit & veg combos are great.

i did a 10 day water fast a few years back, was an awesome experience, may do it again at some point.

I do it once a year for about 14-21 days, fruit and veg combos. I have an oscar juicer which makes great juice. It's a fantastic thing to do and has only benefitted me, haven't had any blood sugar or other problems, only positive effects. That said, it's not for everyone, you need to be in good health, wouldn't recommend it to people with health problems. The weight loss is a nice side effect, usually between 5-10kg, depending on how long I fast. My wife tried it once, when she was in a panic about fitting into her wedding dress :-) She lost about 6kg, fruit juice only.

If you're healthy and happy I'm happy. ;)

So you are saying the growing obesity problem is linked to increased fruit consumption? Instead of the banana i had with my breakfast along with a glass of orange juice i may as well have had a chocolate and coke?

It is not unhealthy to go on a fruit diet, it is very good because it gives your body sometime to get rid of all the toxins found in majority of the food we eat. Fruit juice diet is not good, fresh fruit is the better option. Make sure you balance it out. Loads of info on fruit if you google, don't believe that eating a chocolate and drinking coke is the same thing as eating a fruit. The world is getting fat because we are eating less fruit and veg and more processed rubbish food

With anything speak to a doctor first, as living off juice cannot be healthy, my wife tried it for 3 days and was so sick it wasn't even funny, it's bad news and shouldn't be done by rational minds.

no, your liver and kidneys get rid of toxins. please provide evidence to back up your assertions around detoxification. i'm talking about scientific peer-reviewed academic studies.
there's also a difference between fruit in its natural form and fruit juice per se. one has fibrous content and the other has limited fibre. some fasts only involve the juice, others involve the whole fruit.

Murray, you are definitely right by saying the body detoxes through liver and kidneys. One other big myth is thinking that the body gets rid of toxins through sweating, hence antiperspirants are bad because your body cannot detox anymore. This is also the biggest nonsense.

I am not a supporter of unfound myths either, therefore agree with you. However, I also believe that flushing the system - TO A HEALTY EXTEND - not to flush valuable bacteria, on a short term basis, might be a healthy contribution to excrete some kind of buildup of bad bacteria or whatsoever and therefore cleanse the digesting tract.

Like everything else in life things have to be done in a balanced way and not excessively.

Why are you saying no?

Wow what happened to the stomach? Similar to a car needing a service :D. So does your body. Flush out the oil means take large dumps and eat healthy. Then you can go back to coke and chocolate if you are worried the fruit is making you fat.

Detoxing is cleansing your body, so it is not limited to just your kidneys and liver.

Exactly, doesn't literally have to mean you are excreting toxins.

The first 2-3 days are the hardest but I have not experienced what your wife has experienced, I feel great when on a juice fast.

Im trying to do it undercover (so my parents don't know, they kinda old school in some ways).Hmmm We don't have anything to make fruit.veg juice so thats why I want to go the V8 way(I will prob eat some veggies/fruit while doing it,problem is trying to get my mom or dad to buy me enough juice which would be suspicious.
